Definately an eye catcher!
Love the clothing and the whole decoration, but I thinks maybe the elephant pin on the turban along with the whole designs here make it busy.
I like that you have left a plain and simple background so the much detailed character can pop out! nice!
One thing that I see and you can surely easily make better are the lines, they seem hasty and sometimes don't connect well. In some points the coloring gets out of the character. That's a minor detail I would prefer fixed.
A cool trick to make the character seem even better is to "separate" him from his tail. Make the lines thicker around the body so that it seems that the body is in front of the tail. That could add a bit depth to the whole setting!
