Thanks, I can't remember how long this one took to paint, but I'd estimate roughly 15 to 20 hours work.

I'd like to know what technique you employed to avoid paint for scales to drop into the gap between scales.

I use a dry-brushing technique to just coat the raised sufaces of the scale without getting paint into all the cracks between them.
For this technique you load your paintbrush with paint and then brush most of the paint off onto a bit of kitchen towel or cloth. Then using quick flicking motions, brush over the raised parts of the scales until you can see the colour gradually building up. Because there is so little paint on the brush it cannot run off and get into the cracks and crevices of the sculpt.
I hope this explains it, but please feel free to ask more questions if you need to.
Terry

This is the best kiln-fired sculpture I have ever seen!!! I've been working with water- based clays lately, may I ask exactly which variety you used? Thanks!

Thanks a lot! This was actally sculpted a few years ago in water based clay, although I'm mostly using polymer clay now!
