Marvelous. I agree about the point of Icarus dying the way he wanted to.

Gah I love this! This may sound weird but I'm getting a tattoo of Icarus' fall and was wondering if I could put this poem with it?

Cool take on a classic story. I like how you returned to the beginning in the end. I really enjoy the way the poem flows. "I prefer to think he died just the way he wanted to." made me like the poem even more. That's a great interpretation; it made me think.

This is... beautiful. To me there are many many ways to interpret Icarus' fall. But... I really like this one. It reminds me of the day I read the myth and then asked myself "If I was in his position would I fly too high? Could I even stop myself?"
This is a wonderful piece. Great job.

I wrote a poem like that too...
Oh Icarus, Icarus,
Free as a bird
Soaring so skies
Unseen and unheard
But as Icarus flew,
So close to the sun,
His waxy winged feather,
One by one,
Caught on the calm and gentle breeze,
Soon would drift down to mercilous seas,
And so Icarus, who, caught up in his whim,
Never had time to learn how to swim.

I like. You took something with a set meaning, and decided to throw that meaning out the window.
You gave it your own meaning, and did so quite well.
What was originally meant to be something almost, condescending, you turned joyous.

Oh.... I like this...
-------------------------------
I had not thought of Icarus as the archetype of the Fool before, ignoring older Wisdom to live his whole world in a moment. To break free of the impossible, to stretch the weary edges of one's soul out with white-feathered wings - even if they're only bound with wax; to live one moment, one dream, one life as if that's all...
Perhaps we need more foolish dreamers in this world.
Making the obvious connection, I am minded of the crew of the space shuttle Challenger. It seems appropriate that they should have made this realization, the same as your Icarus, in the moment of their deaths -
Touching the sky.

"Kissing the sky"
Love the allusion to both the classical myth and MacEwan's poem! (that was an allusion, right?)
I much prefer this interpretation to the traditional view: it's far more interesting and denotes a deeper understanding of humanity.
I don't think that Icarus failed, though; I like to think that he succeeded, even in his death. He succumbed to the temptation of beauty and adventure, something most people are too afraid to do, and that isn't a failure. Although he died, he created a legacy for himself. I think that he knew what would happen would happen to him, and that it was worth it.
Ok, I'm going to stop because this is turning into a very long review. But good job, love the poem.

That's a refreshing perspective to the tragedy of Icarus, wonderful and deep.
It directly conveys a message that others would not be so quick to see. It's short, yet impactful. I love it. <3

I actually thought the same thing, that Icarus died the way he wanted to and that he should be remebered for his success in flight rather than his fall.
