Description Here's another fanart to satisfy my "Phantom Tollbooth" fetish. Welcome to the Kingdom Digitopolis, ruled by the King Mathemagician. Enter into his palace as he enchants you with his world of numbers.

"The Phantom Tollbooth" is copyright 1969 by MGM Studios. Based on the book by Norton Juster.

Did you use crayons for the character himself? I've never seen this movie, but I would like to. The book title seems familiar, though.

I used colored pencil, but it was the Crayola brand.

It's a good book. The movie was beautifully done as well, of course I saw the movie first before I read the book, so this is King Mathemagician as he is drawn in the film.

The Mathamagician?
Shouldn't he be fatter?
Nice drawing though.

No ... The Mathemagician is skinny. His brother, King Azaz, is the fat one.

Thanks for your comment.

That's OK. It's easy to get the two confused.

I just checked my book again. Both brothers are fat!

Yes, in the original book the two brothers are fat. I have the book myself. But I didn't draw King Mathemagician according to the book version. This is the Chuck Jones cartoon-version of King Mathemagician, and in the cartoon version, he is skinny. Book versions and cartoon versions of characters are not always equal (most of the time, they're not).

Yes, there's the book version by Norton Juster and there's the 1969 live-action/cartoon version, directed by Chuck Jones (some webpages say 1970, but that's incorrect). Here's a link:
