this is Amaterasu, the god that enchants the wolf, you never see her in the game so this is my interpretation of her.

Nice Pic. Amaterasu is the Sun goddess, but even in the game, I still don't Understand how Okami is the incarnation of Amaterasu, and how she became as a wolf to beging with. And Is Okami realy a girl? Because when Okami meets Rao, Okami acts more like a male then a female. Also, why the moon goddess-Amaterasu's sister-is a bunny with a rice hammer? Make no sense to me...

Amaterasu is actually named Amaterasu Omikami. She most likely chose a wolf as her avatar so that she could better interact and affect the mortal realm. why a wolf I'm not sure, probably just because the makers thought wolves are cool. haha
as for the bunny, well like Europeans see a man's face in the moon, the Japanese see a rabbit making mochi so that's most likely why.

In the religion that Okami is based on, Amaterasu Omikami is a human woman, whilst in the game they portray her as a wolf.
And not all Gods and Goddesses are human. Take the Ancient Egyptians for example. They had a dung beetle, amongst others and several half human half animal gods.

This is really confusing to me...see I could have SWORN Amaterasu is a sun GOD, not goddess, but ALLOT of people draw him as a chick...whats up with that? Am I wrong?

Amaterasu-ōmikami is in Japanese mythology a sun goddess and perhaps the most important Shinto deity. her name means something like "that which illuminates Heaven"
Capcom, on the otherhand, mentions in the game manual, that They intended Amaterasu to be genderless.
