This man was sitting under the bridge right outside my building, playing the tin whistle. He was pretty good, actually... I had a silver dollar in my pocket, so I gave it to him and asked for a shot. Here it is. In the left of the frame are his belongings, which were in a shopping cart.Center City, Philly

I once met a guy in downtown Windsor who played a tin flute. It was bent and dented, but it worked... He did a song called "recycling" which basically consisted of him mimicking the sound of a truck backing up with the flute and a bunch of other strange noises. Him and I hung out for a good hour with some goth girl. It was a good way to pass the time considering that I was depressed due to spending the summer in a new city and not knowing anyone. I hated Windsor and I'm glad to be out of there, but that moment had me smiling.

Oh, now you know I adore you for that! I am married to a musician and know sooooo many. It is easy to judge where a person is in his or her life even at the moment by what and how he/she plays. You captured a lot of personality. For several people who live with hardships in their lives, or face conditions like extreme poverty, music is one of the only things they got left. Capturing that essence isn't easy. Well done.

Sometime tinwhistle has been my only instrument for expressing myself and finding warmth in my life. It was like an island of rest and it didn't almost cost anything.
