“Come on, let’s go! We’re gonna be late!” Talon burst through the door of the room you were staying at in Ecruteak City hotel. Her loud, booming voice shocked you like a Raikou using Thunderbolt. You dropped a pallette of azure eyeshadow in surprise.

“I’m still doing my makeup!” You shout back at Talon, not wanting to be disturbed. After all, you did have 30 minutes before you were supposed to be at the Ecruteak Gym. Morty, the gym leader wanted to learn about the Legendary Pokemon of the Kalos Region. And after many years of aiding Professor Sycamore in his research, you and your best friend Talon were the obvious choice for the job. The gym leader also wanted to see some Pokemon from Kalos to further expand his knowledge on Pokemon, thus sending you to the Johto Region.

Though with Talon nearby, the journey was never peaceful.

“Relax! It isn’t like we are meeting a celebrity or anything, just a gym leader! No need for makeup, silly!” Talon said cheerfully while you grunted at her statement and enthusiasm.

“For your information, this is a huge deal. All gym leaders are famous, silly.” You used her trademark word against her. Talon popped her head into the bathroom door and gave you a pouty face. You bopped her in the forehead with your palm.

“Sheesh, (y/n)! What was that for?” Talon complained.

“Just because.” You chuckled at the pale-blue haired girl. She was dressed in a turquoise sweatshirt with acid-washed jeans. Her black sneakers were covered in claw marks from training her bird type pokemon. Talon definitely wasn’t trying to “dress-to-impress.”

You finished adjusting the bow on your head and Talon clapped as you walked out of the bathroom.

“Stunning! Ten out of ten, perfect score!” Talon judged you like a fashion guru. You laughed and then proceeded to roll your eyes. “I think someone’s going to have an Ecruteak Gym Leader boyfriend!” Talon teased. Your eyes pierced her blue ones like daggers.

“Shut up!” You yelled as Talon dragged you out the door, her laughing knowing she got you this time.

“I don’t think your boyfriend is going to like you talking like that~” Talon made one final poke at you before shutting the door and showing you the way to the Ecruteak City Gym.

Talon brought you to a large, old japanese-styled building that looked very historical. You gave Talon a funny look.

“Are you sure this is the gym?” You questioned.

“I’m as sure that it is as I’m sure I love candy!” Talon replied back goofily and stuck out her tongue.

“Whatever…” You mumble under your breath, only audible enough where Talon could hear you and your distrust.

“Oh cheer up, (y/n)! We will be up and out of here before you know it!” Talon grabbed your arm and dragged you inside of the burnt building. You looked around, wondering why any gym leader would decorate their gym to make it look like it had been in a fire that took place many years ago. Your hand grasped Pumpkaboo’s Pokeball for security.

But it happened in an instant. A loose floor-board creaked beneath Talon’s feet. Screaming, she fell to a lower level with a “thud.” You got on the ground and peaked through the hole Talon’s fall had left behind. In the faintest bit of light, you could see Talon scratch her head and look back up at you. She chuckled.

“I’m fine!” Talon yelled beneath you. “Keep on moving; we’re bound to meet up again at somewhere in this place!” You wondered how she was this optimistic.

“Stay safe!” You shout quickly before getting up and racing down any hallways and doors you could find.

You were out of breath and knew you had to stop and take a break soon. But you couldn’t bring yourself to do that, knowing your friend may be in trouble. You made a mental note to yourself to yell at the Gym Leader for putting you through this.

In the midst of your thoughts, you ran into a solid figure. You stumbled back until two hands grabbed your waist and yanked you out of your fall.

“Are you alright?” A soothing voice questioned. He had seemed to suffer a similar fate of the running side effects with his face being coated in a thin layer of sweat. Before awaiting a response to your question, he began to talk again. “I’m Morty, the Ecruteak City Gym Leader. I was doing some research here, but I heard a scream. But I don’t know where it came from…” His voice trailed off.

“I’m (y/n). I came here because my friend said this was the gym. But I guess she was wrong.” You reply back. “But she fell through the floorboards and landed on a lower level. That was the scream you heard.”

“Ah… So you’re (y/n), and you came with Talon to talk to me about your research in Kalos? I remember your names from the Professor. I can help you find you friend, and show you both the way to my gym.” Morty took his soft, comforting hand in yours and gave you a warm smile.

“Well then, (y/n), shall we go explore?”
