Good grief - It's something that's not fanart!! 8 /

This is a character that's been kicking around in my head for some time now, a combination of a person I saw riding down my street (alas, no penny farthing), someone from my dancing group and a character I played at a host-a-murder recently (I always get the guy characters...).

His name, for the moment, is Tinny O'Rourke, and he's the nicer variety of downtrodden street-merchant, who cycles (well, gets pulled along by dogs, anyway) from place to place selling fruit (or whatever happened to fall off the back of a horse-drawn carriage). He's generally an honest character though, and also busks for money (I know the instrument he's holding looks more like a lute than a violin, I reckon it's something he made himself). He's part of a group of Victorian-era characters I'm trying to do something with at the moment, which will most likely start with some more character sketches (and hopefully, unlike Tinny, they won't all end up looking exactly like EVERY OTHER CHARACTER I DRAW 8(... ). Don't ask me how he manages to stay balanced on that thing, I wish I had that amount of coordination

Not entirely happy with the colour scheme here, but this is my first drawing of him, so we'll see what happens!

If Mr. Tinny O'Rourke's friends look like as much fun as he does, I can't wait to meet them!

*standing ovation*

THAT is an ORIGIONAL CHARACTER. I highly doubt I'll see something like him again. It's a good thing I did too, for he would have been a pity to miss.

Great job!

Very nicely done! Looks like someone I wouldn't mind meeting on the street. Definitely would be an interesting sight, wouldn't it?

Aww, he is awesome and gets extra bonus point for being a redhead, riding a weird bicycle and, well, those dogs!

You really should upload more of original characters, I'm sure you have outstanding ideas!

Awesome job on the shadows! They look very precise and well placed. I also like how the dogs and him have a slight texture too. Whenever I try to let the texture show on my people, they change colors and look unpleasent. I can never seem to get it right.

Thanks so much! I've only recently started experimenting with shadows, I find a good way to do it in photoshop is to make a copy of the colour layer (if you're working in Photoshop), darken it, then on that layer, cut out the bits you want hit by the lightsource. It's kind of like working backworks, but it seems to take care of light and shadow in one go, then you can colour it seperately and do all sorts of fun things As for the textures, thanks! It's a lot of messing around with blending methods, don't be disheartened if they don't turn out great first off, mine never do Just keep experimenting, and you'll gradually build up a library of methods which seem to work for achieving different effects.

I am mutlitasking. Breathing, and typing and pondering something which I have now forgotten....darn, so much for multitasking.

I quite like the colourscheme - it gives an old-world feel that ties in nicely with the Penny-Farthing...

Awwww. That's lovely. Love the background swooshes, and the doglings are terribly cute. What are their names? Snickerdoodle, Rowlf, Baskerville and NorthHampton? Probably not.

You are right, his clothing colors don't pop as well as they could, but they certainly look fine. Keep futzing with them, I'm sure you'll come up with something brilliant. Combinations of drabs and brights, lights and darks, contrasts and similars, always like nice. That cushion he's sitting on is grabbing too much of my attention, maybe tone it down and make something else yellow? Dunno. I know how I would do it, but I don't know how you would do it. Be happy with how it looks, leave it be unless you have some epiphany, and do more drawings of tinny and fuss with them. Draw draw draw!

Ya done good, it's very warm and spiffy.
