Description My anniversary is coming up on October 2, so I want to post this to show some friends.

This is my wedding ring. It's a two-band ring: one has the central stone and worked as the engagement ring; the matching band was added on by the jeweler (merged together with a little gold) and acts as the wedding band. Both bands hold five 0.2 carat diamonds, for a total of one whole carat.

The central stone... is NOT a diamond.
I know, you're probably shocked and thinking my husband is a cheap bastard.

No... I just don't support the diamond monopoly moguls and their jacked-up prices for some stupid colorless stone. Yep, I'm a girl who isn't starry-eyed over diamonds. Diamonds aren't MY best friend...my HUSBAND is! The ring is merely a symbol.

Honestly, I wanted a sapphire engagement ring, since as a child Princess Diana's engagement ring was my "ideal" ring. However, my husband wanted a ring that acted as a huge BACK OFF sign, and modern Americans see diamond as the "traditional" stone of engagement rings, a tradition that began only in the 1930s with the De Beers diamond monopoly and their aggressive commercialization. So he wanted what would be more easily recognizable to any would-be suitor, and I've had to flash that stone at many flirts. They see the diamond, they back off. Since I wasn't particular, he opted for "bigger is better" and got a 1.5 carat Moissanite (known as "meteorite diamonds"). It's not a "real" diamond, but it sparkles even brighter than the real ones, it was a fraction of the price, which meant he could get me a stone that made his mother jealous, since my "diamond" is bigger than hers.

I confess, I'm just a little smug that my wedding ring has the biggest stone amongst all my married friends... just a little cocky about that, haha! There they are with their half-carat rings, or one carat for some, and I have a rather large 1.5 carat stone with 10 smaller diamonds surrounding it, making this ring really shine!

The wave pattern was something he specifically wanted, since we used to go sailing together a lot, our first date was to the coast, he formally asked me out later at the beach, and then he proposed to me on the same beach where he asked me out.

At night. On the beach. Down on one knee. And the ring box had a little light in it so I could see what it was. It was seriously romantic!

His wedding band has a matching wave pattern, and inside his band I had the jeweler engrave "Happily Ever After," since those were the words he used when he proposed. "Being with you has been a fairy tale, and I want us to seek out our 'happily ever after.' Will you marry me?"

Sheesh, I'm blushing again just remembering when he did that! And then on October 2, 2005, we began a new story, the beginning of our lifelong 'happily ever after.' This ring was placed on my finger, and I've worn it every day for 8 years.

Pretty ^_^ and happy anniversary too! Β The way he proposed is romantic! Seems like everyone has a more romantic proposal (or at least in my opinion) than I did xD My best friend's proposal was just randomly in bed when her and her bf (at the time) were about to go to sleep he said "do you wanna get married?" not exactly "romantic" really but for some reason I think it's really sweet hehe. My husband asked me after we got home from being out half the day, no kneeling (which I'm ok with him not doing lol) or anything traditional other than holding the ring box out

My ring isn't a diamond either and I'm perfectly happy with that ^_^ Mine is cubic zirconia, I really like the rainbowy look to them xD but now after seeing a moissanite I want one of those o_o they're soooo pretty I'd never heard of them until now The bands sound like how mine are. One larger stone on 1 simple band as the engagement ring and the wedding ring is the engagement ring set inside 2 outer fancier bands?

My husband and I actually need to get new rings but I have no idea when we'll be able to :/ I figure we won't be able to until our 10th anniversary which will be in 2016. My ring doesn't fit well anymore (keep it on a necklace) and his got lost/stolen D: neither of us had much money when we got married, so I got him a titanium ring and it had kanji on it that meant "together forever" :3 Β I don't care about how much rings cost really (except when it comes to being expensive, then I care ) but it'd be nice to get some nicer rings next time around.Β

Titanium sounds durable. That's a problem with gold rings. They get dinted up easily. I'm glad he didn't get me 24 karat gold or I'd have likely broken this ring many times over, haha! That's a problem with a big stone. I tend to whack it against things a lot.

My husband is just one of those really romantic guys, to the point where he sickens my more "casual" friends. How a guy asks isn't all that important, so long as he means it and sticks with it. You can get the most wonderful proposal and have the guy leave one week before the wedding.

I think a 10 year anniversary ring would be amazing. He's been hinting if I want that, since ours is 2 years away. I think the ring I've got is just fine, maybe a trip to the jeweler just to shrink the band a tad (my finger apparently shrank) but otherwise, it's held up and it's still pretty. I told him I'd rather have a good vacation for our 10-year, and we're thinking a European trip is in order.

Thanks! I hope you find your soulmate. Just don't rush it. We dated for 6 years (without living together) before deciding we really could put up with one another, haha!
