Description I wanted to improve my skill in drawing colored lights but i couldn't really think of any good idea for a setting so it turned out alittle more artistic then usual. However it's always nice to have the freedom to pose a character without thinking about gravity. I drew floating orbs at first to show the source of the lights but they ended up being more distracting so i left them out. Enjoy!

I really enjoy this piece, Ribera, I can tell you put a lot of effort into it. Your coloring is very smooth and natural, and you really seem to have captured a good degree of control over lighting, at least spot lighting.

The only thing I question is the eye shine, it seems unnatural. Given the darkness you the surrounding area, it seems too bright. Since this is a lighting piece, I think the eye should fit in more with the surrounding lighting. Not that's it's bad, just that I question whether it would appear like that given the lighting you've chosen for the image.

One thing that this lacks is a clear sense of scene. I would have loved to see a background in this piece. It's one of the areas I lack in my own artwork, and it's something I want to practice on more, so I bring it up. Also, if you had objects and a scene, it would be quite interesting to see the lighting interacting with it. As it is, it's still a very interesting composition with the darkness surrounding him, but I would have loved to see more. ^^

All in all a really good job! I think it's great to see you trying out new styles of lighting. It's quite a successful character study. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/sโ€ฆ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

The development of the artist's skills is very visible here. If one compares this to the first time this character was seen the difference is great. It is one of the joys of DA to see how others develope their skills and become better in what they do creating beautiful art I could never even dream of being able to create.

The lighting and shading are both really well done and different colors of light are wisely placed away from each others which makes it very effective and clear. Too many different colors in the same relatively small place can make a pic look confusing.

The pose is great too. It reminds me of frescoes where saints ascend to Heaven. That same mystical feeling is here and it works very well that way.

The dark, simple background fits the pic well. It contemplates the colorfulness of the character in the middle of it. I like the themes of broken glass. It is so sharp while the character is so soft and round.

This could easily make a great poster. That is for sure.

I give full points and there is no doubt this pic and the artist deserves it.

First Critique so Here I go.

I like the design of the body alot and you said you wanted to practice the lights, and i think you nailed it pretty nice. The soft glow makes it appear rather calm and the fading and shadings that cover her is right on.

I don't see much else to approve on that can't be done with constant drawing. Good flow to the body. Makes me feel like she's floating along through the air. Though, at the same time, it makes me think she's moving to a rave song with those strong primary lights. I think that the white dot, that i think is an eye shine, is kinda off... unless you use it as a pupil instead.

all around good otherwise, five stars e.deviantart.com/emoticons/b/bโ€ฆ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)" />

Nice work here Riberz, Good idea leavin out the orbs they might have overwhelmed the picture a bit. I must say I love the texture and shading in your art and I love the detail you put into it. I love the movement and flow in your pose. Kinda looks like he took a big jump into a whole new world. The headpones were also a good idea X3

How long did this take you to finish this?

I think the toes looks alright. But you are really missing the big picture if you just focus on one small detail. Your comment could have been alittle more elaborated.

The pose is awesome, and I love how it looks like he's actually jumping.
The eye shine is questionable, but if there was more proof there was a light source from underneath, it'd be ok. =3
Great job.

Very amazing work, Rib. The only problem I can see with it is the texture of his hair. It makes it seem like a solid piece of plastic thing that was kinda just stuck onto his head. Now, I notice this is a sore-spot for a lot of artists, and sadly, I can't give any advice on how to better it, other than drawing each strand of hair individually :S

Other than that, amazing work on the light sources, the body structure, expression and the overall theme of the pic. :3

Ribera In reply to IAmLordKane [2009-04-21 15:39:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
Yeah, the hair is always difficult cause if you draw each strand of hair it often get to realistic in comparison to the rest of the image that is rahter cartoonish. So i rather keep it simple like this.
