Kishimoto is incredibly sexist towards women. They all take passive roles. Even when they are given the spotlight, its always momentary and overshadowed by a man who comes to the rescue. Hinata has been the damsel in distress in the series. The sweetheart. She's the epitome of innocence marked with big boobs created for the perverted minds of fanboys and pedophiles who dream of nothing but raping and taking the delight in taking that innocence away.
*pukes*
Wow! That's great that you went back to it~ <3 It really did turn out great!

LOL nah. Its the world of anime to feed the fanboys the innocent -hime they secretly desire in their fantasies.
I do have a lot of beef with Kishimoto hah. His females are underdeveloped. Hinata in particular, i think, annoys me because her personality type is more fitting for a princess or a school girl instead of a ninja. I can't tell you how many times she's had to be saved in the anime x.x

No offene to Hinata, but you do have a very valid point. No wonder I felt she is so out of place. She was a misfit, but I couldn't quite put my finger on why. She has the disposition of anything but a ninja.
Well observed!
In counting, Hinata has only been saved twice in the manga within a 3 year time span.

Yah. Fillers are horrible to characters.
I loved hinata at first. I tend to latch on to shy characters who step up to the plate to be brave. But then i found the fanbase, and then i saw what Kishi turned her into in Shippuden and i started not liking her.
its the same with Orihime from Bleach. She's the same innocent sweetheart of the series. The damsel in distress. I don't find it sexy when creators give "innocent" girls big boobs, love stuck by the main male character. Its just asking for that character to be raped by fanboys. It would be okay if one or two of them were like that, for a show of contrast with the physical attributes of other simillar characters, but it seems a lot of them are like that these days -_-''

hmmm, I'd like to contrast Hinata with Orihime.
First off, I'd like to say that I agree with your observation of Orihime. Ichigo's display of vigour is constantly used to hide his flat personality. After watching 200+ episodes I still bearly know him. That being said, how can Orihime like him? Apart from being the protagonist and a dude, Ichigo has nothing going for him. Hence, Orihime's love is irrational.
Secondly, Her assets are also flaunted in the face of the audience from the start. Heck, she always has that annoying friend who comments and plays with her breasts.
Thirdly, Orihime has the personality of a shoe. She follows Ichigo claiming to fight to the death in the name of 'good friends'. WHY?! He doesn't in even talk to you in class!!
On the other hand, Hinata's love for Naruto is rational. He has proven himself time and time again by sticking to his word as a man and through his way of the ninja.
Also, Hinata's chest has always been hidden under a thick jacket. Guys no doubt find big breasts attractive. Kishimoto is perhaps trying to make a statement that beauty is something that is hidden.
Lastly, Hinata's character is better developed in comparison. her inferiority-complex, family standing and admiration for Naruto is well explained.

That is the one shred of respect I have about the new Hinata- Kishimoto keeps her modestly dressed. She looks really hot and stuffy in a thick jacket and long pants, and in some shots in makes her look plump, but I am SO glad that she covers up and stays conservative in that regard. ...though i guess it's all the more fun for fanboys to dress her up in outfits that are contrary to Hinata's personality.
In an Omake of the 300th episode, Hinata was featured in a loli maid's outfit with bunny ears and all.
I loved Hinata's development compared to Orihime's. Sure, she's joked as being a stalker towards Naruto and is still too shy and princessy for her own good, but she did change from being a door mat to making her own decision about going into a loosing battle against Pain just to profess love and, perhaps, stall pain long enough for some other help to come in and intervene on Naruto's behalf. Orihime's friend is a lesbie creep *shudders* and Orihime in general is a very random, spazz-tastic character. Hinata does have more substance than Orihime does, that i can see.
Hm...Naruto never spoke to Hinata either, really. Ichigo make all kinds of determined promises to defeat evil, just as Naruto does. I think what it boils down to, again, is the gender roles that is predominant in Japanese, and yes American society.
In Shounen anime, the main male protagonist always has an arch nemesis. He's always fighting, and his end goal, no matter how its worded, is to get stronger to prove their worth as a man by defeating that nemesis, or achieving a goal. (to be hokage, to defeat Arrancar and Aizen, even to be the greastest pokemon trainer of all~)
There's also usually a love interest, or many love interests that main character fights for. (Sakura, Hinata, Rukia, Orihime) to rescue them or advocate for them. The interested females are in love with that male for being "so strong and determined". And the male is determined to protect that female...and not just that loving female, but any other friend...in the name of friendship. There's also a strong emphasis placed on believing in that main protagonist, and by having enough faith in him, the supporting characters enable him to defeat evil once and for all.
It shows me that Japanese society heavily values these traits in men...and is what women should find attractive: strong, determined, incredibly masculine, loyal, and of course handsome. Females, by 'believing in the power of friendship' are to be protected, the supporters of such men. Submissive, giving them the control of the situation. Faithful to that man and dependent on them.
Even those females who do try to "prove themselves" and fight by themselves are usually defeated, humiliated, or end up requiring the help of a man anyway. Otherwise, its simply left up to their "personality" for the female to choose not to fight. Like Orihime being too much a pacifist to fight. If anything, the strength of the woman in shounen manga is shown by how much faith they have in that main male character. Taking the sidelines and letting them take the lead while being satisfied in "having faith" and "believing" in them.
Shouju is ridiculous. These cutesey frilly-outfitted girls and women defeat evil by purity of heart for good, and attack with razzle-dazzling glitter of doom. Often motivated by a bishi romantic love interest too.

Yeah! I saw the omake... You must understand that that scene was probably not the intention of Kishi- no more so than all the crap-tastic fillers.
Japan IS a sexist country. I will not deny that. I'm not a fan of Japanese culture, let me tell you that.
Despite Naruto never having really said anything to Hinata, I feel that he has been involved in her life more than Ichigo has on Orihime's. I'll always remember the Konoha 13 even if a bunch of them take a backseat like Lee, Gaara or Neji. Whilst Ichigo and Orihime are always there, I just don't feel the same chemistry. As a character, Orihime is so forgettable that she needed her own arc to remind the audience that she's alive- a person with feelings and emotion (although her decision to go with the arrancar showed pitiful amounts of resolve).
Unlike Bleach, naruto was always clear about his love- Sakura. Hinata has alway hero-worshipped Naruto. Its as simple as that. I don't even know who Ichigo loves- Rukia or Orihime.I guess he can just carrie on saving them in the name of friendship.
This brings me to my next point. Hinata was never saved by Naruto. Sakura did. Furthermore, it was Tsunade who saved Naruto from Orochimaru. She also succeeds first in accomplishing Naruto's dream of becoming a Hokage. Furthermore, depite Shikamaru's smarts, he needed Temari to save him. I don't see how Kishi is trying to demean women. Three of the strongest characters in the Naruto world and even amongst the akatsuki are female: Tsunade, Mizukage and Konan. Sakura and Temari will most likely follow in their footsteps.
All the women in Naruto put up a good fight. I don't see how you can say they were humiliated. After all, when there's a winner, there's also a loser. Let's not forget that it was Chiho and Sakura who defeated Sasori. Also if you must say that female characters were being humiliated then I'd like to point out that usually there are male characters right there recieving the same treatment. Kurenai was defeated by Itachi; just like how he defeated Azuma and Kakashi. Hinata was defeated by Pain just like countless others. Women are not particularly victimised in Naruto.
Perhaps in Bleach, everything depends on Ichigo. But I think you've missed the point of Naruto. Its not about believing in him. Its about believing in 'yourself' and your core values. As you've read the manga, you'll know that Sai just lectured Sakura on not being a burden for Naruto. To a large extent, Sakura has bcome one of the strongest characters amongst the Konoha 13 because she wanted to make a difference herself.
Lastly I see nothing wrong with the following male traits> strong, determined, incredibly masculine, loyal, (okay being handsome is subjective. Mind you, my sister always says how she thought Naruto was ugly to begin with. Kishi deliberately made Sasuke a lot better looking).
Why go for a weak man when you can have a strong one? Women should not settle for less.

Hm...I can't quite put my foot on it but you're right. In Naruto, there's a collective emphasis on working together as a team, being a supportive network to defend a cause. In Bleach...the focus is basically on ichigo, who's been exalted by his peers and mostly rejected by 'soul society'.
I don't think the idea is to bluntly humiliate women. If thats the case or not, I still don't like some of the vibes and the messages that, at least I'm picking up in a lot of these anime about women's subjugation towards men.
That's true~ Women do find a strong man attractive~ But not the rash, self-appointed 'leader' of the group who's got quite the ego, and wants to be the only one to save the day (or person). That's not attractive to me, it's frustrating and puke-worthy.

I agree with all your points up until the last one. With regards to your stereotype of egotistical male hero, that is only true to an extent. In most cases, the hero takes on the role of the 'leader' only because no one else would or could. The hero usually has the situation forced upon him due to events related to or caused by him.

No probs, on the fave. Good work deserves to be recognised.
If you ask me,'determination' and saint patron of friendship' is only something heavily emphasized in Bleach. Someone (always a girl) would scream and Ichigo would acquire a burst of energy and get revived depsite losing fatal amounts of blood.

Oh, naruto too lol! There's been countless times where naruto's "sheer determination" saved so many people from the dark side and defeated so many enemies~ A lot of our male heros go ballistic and 'return from the dead' or an incapacitated state when their favorite girl screams (or whatever) bloody murder. Or gets pwned.

True, naruto does it too, but with a difference. Being a fan of naruto, you know that I'm bound to defend it. But I think I have a good reason this time. Naruto's determination derives from some a higher purpose e.g. for Konoha, for justice, for his own morals etc. On the other hand, bleach uses Rukia, Orihime and Nel as battle transition points. This usually involves the damsel in distress screaming in a flood of tears. But as you said, this is not the first time and probably won't be the last.

Not a bad suggestion, I might just do that next time. Although I did like the canon because Naruto did the avenging. What I did not like was how Kishimoto followed it up. There was absolutely no follow-up. I was to see a development in Naruto and Hinata's relationship.

Both. And I know what you mean about filler. I understand why it's nessecary sometimes, to pad out the plot so they can give Kishimoto more time to write the real chapters, but it's never up to par with the real stuff. As for the manga, I'm jjust happy to have Captain Yamato back in action in the currant arc. He's my favourite male character.

It sounds like we're talking about drugs here. Nothing quite like the real thing... But I suppose Naruto is kinda like a fix for me. I want the series to end but I'll be sad when it does.
With all the brains behind the series (and with such interesting characters), I'm surprised at how they can still get fillers so horribly wrong. Naruto keeps getting beaten by extrordinarily weak-looking opponents. I doubt that was what Kishimoto intended.
Captain Yamato, thats the first I've heard of him being a fav character. Mine's defo Naruto. He's like a little brother to me.
