Hey Richard, I think you need to change your profile because your drawing skills are "there" and you are definitely very,very good. This drawing in particular is awesome. Great job throwing some real darks in there, the contrast works terrificly. As they say in England, brilliant. (They do say that don't they?)

Several times I have hovered over it ready to pen a magnum opus, only to get writers block and slink off back to my cave, to lick my wounds.

Well I've been here 3 yrs and had very low art esteem when I joined. If you're drawing every chance you get you will improve. It's just like playing the piano! The paper and pencil are our instruments.
I would rather neutrality than negativity. Even if this is was all you drew, it would be cool!

I think people draw/create for different reasons. For a lot of people it is release or a chance to de-stress. For me it is the opposite. I find it frustrating and stressfull. I usually avoid things I am not good at, so even picking up a pencil (after 25 years of not drawing) is a small victory.
