The "well" is so innocuous, with that scripty writing. Quite a contrast to the upended traffic light. Love this one.

Thanks very much. This one was put together extremely intuitively, even for me - I put it aside for a few days after completing it, and then saw that it worked in very interesting ways.

Intuitively yes, perhaps, but I can't help but opine that "intuitive" is a state that is open to so many degrees of being. I see "intuitive" that is like children's scrawl and then your type of "intuitive," which is more like internal cylinders firing up. Perhaps the word has taken on a bad rap with me because of how Working Intuitively has become a sort of sacred pilgrimage in the mixed-media world. More like a sacred cow, if ya ask me.

maps. found them always so fascinating. not the slightest idea why

they promise so much, i think - we can hold them in our hands but studying them will help us master a vast area...
no substitute for them either - a couple weeks ago coming back from Vermont i missed a turn on the highway, we were going by a google maps print-out, which is just a list of turns to take, so if you miss... (and no GPS in my car) - but i reached under the seat, pulled out a 15 year old atlas and

Does the well being comes from big numbers full of zeros? Some attempt to reach that for sure.

The cartography works very well in this piece. With its color and shape, it ties all the collage elements together.

thanks very much, LΓΊcia, and for seconding Bev's comment. a 3D effect on a map is interesting when you think about it because a map is flat by definition... which i wasn't thinking when i made it, i was working by feeling as usual. i have some more of these maps

you're welcome, Richard. i guess that the 3D effect comes from the depth created by the illusion of distance - the "land" represented in tha map is far away, while the other collaged elements are closer, on a first plan...

you know i've been for DAYS like EAGER to make a collage, don't know why. but i couldn't because of neck pain... today i'm better so i think i will go for it!
