Description Apollo 11, 1969 -- Russia has lost this leg of the space race...

P.S. There are already existing deviations of America on the moon gloating over Russia. Thought I'd show Russia's viewpoint for a change XDXD

Reminds me a bit of the story of the cosmonauts in 1968, frustruated with the lack of direction in their program in the late 60's and the failure of their N1, were on a bus and one of them angrily exclaimed "What are we doing arguing about this? The Americans are around the moon RIGHT NOW." They stopped the bus and looked up at the moon in the night sky.

Finally, it's very true.

His emotional stance is unforgettable. He took it so seriously you can see everything caving in now.

America better not show his face and gloat while in the same room. Things tell me it will not be some hot yaoi scene so many fangirls crave. *blerk* ((I mean, you can have your yaoi but for this picture... When the intention is clearly scathingly unromantic?))

This,to me, looks like the quiet before a storm.

Russia lost the space race but the US dropped NASA and Soyuz rockets still fly to the space station Russia won in the end.

SaphiraNex [2011-09-08 23:16:04 +0000 UTC]

Nice idea, since from what I see it's shown with either both of the characters present or in America's point of view. I can definitely see all the frustration in his posture even though I can't get a good look at his face. The background adds an enormous of emotion to the picture as well. It's really, really good.
....

PS By the way, I'm desperate for comments(as you can tell by the fact that I' actuall writing this) so somebody PLEASE COME LOOK AT MY STUFF!!! Sorry...like I said...I'm desperate.

Somehow I dont believe in the moonlanding anymore.
Its like SantaClaus for me. You just cannot go and see for yourself, so its like a myth.

whodarep08 In reply to DunkleMaterie [2011-10-14 00:33:49 +0000 UTC]

For being one of the most documented events in history with still-alive people who witnessed it, and untold amounts of physical and photographic evidence proven time and again of it's legitimacy, it's pretty hard to consider it a myth.

WormWoodTheStar [2011-06-26 10:36:35 +0000 UTC]

The Moon landing was largely a propaganda victory, most of the important steps in space conquer (first satellite, first living beings in space, first human, first probes which reached Moon and other planets etc.) were made by USSR. If it wasn't for financial issues and Sergyei Korolov's death in 1966, the Soviets might have made it to the Moon, even though the same job (collecting and analysing samples) was done by unmanned probes, which were better choice than manned missions because instead of sending several astronauts, their live supporting systems, their landing crafts etc. we send just a single machine. In my opinion, USSR was a true victor of Space Race.

whodarep08 In reply to WormWoodTheStar [2011-10-14 00:27:55 +0000 UTC]

A valid opinion, but i must disagree wih some things.

True on the first part, that the United States wanted to land on the Moon purely out of the irrational cold-war fear of the Soviets would build some sort of missile base there if they won, even though the idea is proposterious and impractical; and to show that the US was not to be left behind out of national pride.

But then again, some of the space-firsts done by the Soviets were purely for popaganda purposes as well, for example, the 2-man Zond orbiter the russians built, sacrificed safety to make it a three-man spaceraft that they could show off to america by beating the development of the Apollo CSM. Alexi Leonav's spacewalk was a near-fatal accident that the soviets downplayed to showoff. And the Soviets even considered to send a one-way mision to the moon just to beat the americans, and doesn't sound like a desperate attempt to steal glory for politicial purposes doesn't it? Yet Americans were into moon landing for geopolitical gain as well, for after apollo 11, no one cared about the moon anymore even though the scientific exploration of it just started. And thats what i hate most: all politics, with no science.

It wasn't just the financing and Korolov's death that killed the moonshot, for there was alot of beurocratic infighting over who gets to build the rocket and the rocket itself was poorly designed.

True that robotic probes save alot of time and effort studying other worlds, but the ones the russians sent only brough back a few ounces while apollo brought back almost 1000lbs of moonrocks from six different places to study, rocks from hard to reach places and easier to identify up close than through a robotic camera. And in the long run about manned or unmanned exploration, if humanity is to actually survive and expand to space, we have to at least try to fly to other worlds and learn how to survive there and actually use the resources they have rather than just studying them from afar.

Oh and lets not forget that Russia's Korolov, along with America's Werhner Von Braun, were both german and the whole idea of seriously going to the moon was concieved and first put into motion by Germany during the 2nd World War, if Von Braun and Korolov's ideas were not used as weapons, Germany could've been the first to the moon. The Soviets and Americans stole their scientists and took credit for the brainwork.

People overlook those details, and it makes you wonder if there really was any victor...But we as humans got there nonetheless.

You mean the conspiracy theory the moon landing was faked to shove the russians out of the way of the space race? Nah, you've got a right to your opinion and beliefs.

I love how you can totally sense Russia's anger and frustration without ever seeing his face. I'd feel a bit sorrier for him if not for the fact that Russia was actually in the lead for most of the Space Race (first man-made object in space, first human in space, first orbit of the Earth, etc.) so I think he and the US are about even in the end.

Yes!!! Awesome!! Actually, I've been drawing stuff about this on-and-off, after seeing a really awesome PBS serial about the space race. I love the details you put into this piece, the muted beige tone of a communist bloc office in the Sixties. Something seems a bit stiff in Russia's posture, but everything else I see seems just perfect. This is also startlingly original in this type -- Like I said, I am the only other person I know that has considered 'this side'!
