Description When industry on the island of Obbeeys started to grow exponentionally in the 1890s, the trains on the mainline got longer and heavier. This resulted in the old box tanks and their tender engine variants assigned to the steep gradients of the mainline at the time to be too underpowered to continue banking trains up the hills. Struan Balley, a locomotive designer employed by Bea Works, who had just spend ten years at Swindon, was tasked with designing a new banking engine to replace the old box engines on banking duties. He finished the design in 1898, being heavily inspired by his experience in Swindon. These powerful 0-8-0s become known around the island as Balley Bankers, both because of their designer and because they were trailed on the gradients between Balley and West Jannooby. The first batch of four members was constructed in November 1998. When the construction on the Canyon branchline started in 1900, it was immediately desided that the Balley Bankers would also act as the bankers for the steep gradients needed to be climbed and descended to reach the branchline. As a result, another four members of the class were constructed. The Balley Bankers worked both on the Canyon branch and the mainline untill 1924, when the Hodgson bankers replaced them on the Canyon branch. By this time, most of the bankers were getting worn out. They were rebuilt over a period of two years, from 1924 till 1926, with tapered boilers, Belpaire fireboxes and double chimneys.

When the Balley Bankers were entirely replaced on the Canyon branch in 1931, the first member of the class was put up for sale, since the engine was developing serious metal fatigue and it would be risky to try to remedy the ailment. The railwayboard at the time didn't allow the controller at the time to spend so much money on a procedure that had a low chance of success. The Royal Family showed interest in purchasing him, since the newly crowned king of Obbeeys, king Rick the sixth, had grown up around this particular engine. They ended up purchasing the engine and funding the treatment of the metal fatigue, which was a success. Following this, the engine became the Royal engine and got a repaint.

[Edit] Made some modifications to the chimney and smokebox.
