This is good practice!!
I remember back when I was taking a studio class in which we drew nude models our teacher would demostrate in lectures before we drew to try intense blacks against white and sometimes letting them almost appear as if they're seeping into the wrinkles or concaves of the body. Also putting a dark background behind the character on where the light is hitting them adds for a cool effect. It makes the character pop out more at you.

thanks!, yup yup, i had a few practices like that but never any nude sessions. we did that type of study w/ strong light sources on a bunch of wood blocks and bottles~
