Bruce Banner was an integral part of a team of scientists tasked with developing an energy source that harnessed gamma radiation. This experimental technology was also also being scouted out by the American military for possible offensive use. As a part of this, experimental rays and detonations were released onto a sparsely populated area of the Nevada desert.

One such of these weapon tests brought to life the Incredible Hulk. The day took place as usual, the team alongside military presence ran tests, which were cut short by signs of life on the field. Banner took it upon himself to drive out to the testing zone and warn off the presence. Upon finding and sending off the intruder, Bruce found that the tests had not been halted. Within minutes Bruce was met with a blast of gamma radiation...
