"When I gaze at the vast, starry sky... I'm always humbled by how small I really am, and all my worries are blown away! " Finland, Hetalia World Stars, Ch 105

I need a short word for "Well, this did not turn out as I imagined, what on earth happened?". For now, I'll just use "Oops".

So, this is another contest entry (last one for now, I promise XD), this time to this contest ---> fav.me/d9nklsp . The theme was optional and revolved around the elements (water, fire, earth, air and plasma). Although it isn't very obvious, I choose to go for water.

Time to make: Somewhere around 20 hours, give or take. I would have liked to spend more time on it but due to a number of reasons I couldn't (me being sick among others). I started by sketching out what sort of motive I wanted, during this I also played around a little with the perspective. When I thought I'd found (this took quite a while, I had a hard time settling for one) a motive I liked I created the lineart on a layer above the sketch.

When the lineart was done, I switched program from FireAlpaca to ClipArt Studio since I'm more comfortable with coloring in the latter. I started by creating the starry sky, using a lot of spray brushes to make it more alive and when it was done I copied and vertically flipped the new layer into the water part of the drawing. I filled Finland, the leaves and the flowers with flat colors before once more going berserk with spray brushes to create variations in the leaves and flowers. Finally I did the lighting and added some extra details and finishing touches.

My insipration for this: Finland is nicknamed "land of a thousand lakes" so i knew quite early on I wanted to use him togehter with water somehow. I was looking through the world starts chapters with the nordics and came across the quote at the beginning of this description and got the idea to use a starry sky reflected in a lake. To make it a little more interesting I thought i'd cover the lake with water lillies and have Finland hold water in his hands (and possibly float around in it) to reflect a particular star.
