I'm Vietnamese, and I definitely would not have guessed it was an ao tu than, least not any I've seen or worn. o.O It seems much more like a Chinese period style dress, and I thought that was what it was. It's a little better, but it's still not really an ao tu than, named for the 4 'parts' of the tunic over the shirt and skirt.
Still, I like the changes you made, they fit the character well, from what I can see, and I love the colors you used.

I did used references (18th century styled ) to make it so perhaps you saw and worn the modern version ?

Hmm, maybe. It's just the ribbon part that doesn't quite sit well with me. On an ao tu than, the part that's ties is actually the two front flaps on the tunic. If there is a ribbon, then it goes around the waist, so there are two bows.
