Description I have to admit, I don't use photo references often since I don't necessary want a realist anatomy/feeling.
It's not the only way either, but it's probably the simplest one to my opinion.

The point of this process is to show how can you emphasize the silhouette and anatomy while staying "close to reality" and give a more "Anime" feeling. First, DON'T TRACE !!!! or you won't ( with difficulty ) fly away from reality

1. Shape, don't wreck your brain on that one, just draw the very basic silhouette.
2. Now you can wreck your brain XD I articulate the body like BJD/an articulated puppet. You don't have to stick 100% to the photo.
3. Simply showing the contour. That's the lines you will follow for drawing socks, shorts, gloves ect...  It's not necessary but still showing it XD

4. Finally drawing the body
5. Tada !! You've drawn a body from a photo reference !!!!
6. Putting clothes on it.
7. And some colors, Finis ! 0v0

Reference used for this step by step :   by pyjama-cake

Once your brain and hand have done those steps for long enough you will naturally skip some steps. I, for example, go directly from step 1 to step 5 because I'm used to it. It's difficult to explain but it's gotten instinctive, practice and repetition is the key of learning >0v0<

Don't repost, ect ...
If it's not useful to you or don't like it rather than ranting on it : then thank you for passing by, BYE BYE
Don't forget I don't have any obligation whatsoever to post ressources, tutorials, references or anything else of the kind 0V0

I do this kind of thing a lot, although usually it's not an entire pose and I just take pictures of my arm or hands

Is it bad that I like how the sketch body (BJD) looks more than the finished one...?

Oh well.

this is great i combined this with sneshi stocks tutorial here eowynceleste.deviantart.com/ar… to get the images gesture and line placements right. then i went to pyjama-cake's tutorial here pyjama-cake.deviantart.com/art… to roughly shape out the bust and hips from there came your tutorial of roughly sketching out the body around the lines and what not. i had the worst anatomy in the past and  my art was so stiff it was ridiculous. now with everyone’s help though the anatomy needs work i can tell i found a way to draw art that’s more 'realistic' thank you so much.

I've been using reference pics to get the hang of anatomy and this is really useful. I don't have a method xD so I think it'll be very helpful for me to have a more organised way to approach it

Loving the stuff you make for tutorials. Nothing too technical or hard to understand, so simple and straight forward.

Actually I do have something in mind.
Maybe a character turn around sheet? Like front, side and 3/4 or back views.
I'm pretty sure a lot of people would like to create their own characters but don't actually go through this process.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rika-dono In reply to The-WoobiE [2015-02-14 11:24:09 +0000 UTC]

Dunno, I don't use those, I only have front views for 95% of my characters. I'm not sure why but I feel like making turn arounds just restrict me XD
I have front and back base model in my gallery tough

The-WoobiE In reply to rika-dono [2015-02-14 12:30:12 +0000 UTC]

Really! Is it in the tutorial sections? I have to take a look at it now.
Hmm... I'm not sure what else I suggest now.

On a side note. I saw your recently Precure art. Gave me inspiration to do something similar with a anime figure that arrived recently.

Love your stuff. So helpful.

It's so hard to stray away from realism! Omg, I have so much trouble with that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rika-dono In reply to aymeezus [2015-02-14 04:57:38 +0000 UTC]

That's why I tend to glance at a photo then draw what comes in my mind without actually referencing the photos. More freedom
