Description So, this picture took me a total of 3 hours to color and about 2 hours to draw and scan. It's a combo of my traditional-drawing non-skills and my digital coloring semi-skills. Yes, I traced it when i drew it traditionally, the link to the originals are below. Yes, I traced most of it from the second picture, but used the first as referance for muscles, the rider, and a few tweeks to the tack. And yes, I did flip it when i put it on the computer, because I thought it looked better that way.

-STORY-
Beth waited eagerly while Amy groomed their newest stallion and tacked him up. This would be his first show with Rimrock Ranch, and the girls couldn't have been more eager. Originally, Tessa was going to be the one to ride the stallion for this, but after being kicked by Cali, she wouldn't be able to ride for at least another month. She'd asked Beth to take her place, and the teen had eagerly agreed, and as she watched the big stallion arching his neck and looking around excitedly, Beth knew this was going to be great. Finally, Amanda bridled the stallion and led him toward Beth, handing over the reins and following the pair as they headed to the arena.
"Beth, chill. You're almost has antsy as him!" Amy laughed, watching her friend.
"It's his first show, and he's in amazing condition. Why shouldn't we both be excited?" Beth shot back.
Pass snorted softly and nudged Beth's shoulder gently, still prancing beside her. He was awfully excited today, and that was making his normal spunk become a bit extreme. As they walked he was constantly arching his neck, then tossing his head into the air, sometimes flinging himself into a partial rear.
"Easy boy. It's just a show. Calm down." Beth soothed, trying to calm herslelf a bit so he would pick up on it and calm down too. As they reached the ring, Amy took the reins from Beth and put them over the stallion's neck, then held him while Beth checked the tack and mounted.
Pass danced beneath her, but she was used to that. In training all he did was dance and prance, showing off.
"Yes, yes, you're beautiful. Now let's go. It's almost our turn." Beth told him as she nudged him into the ring. She was thankful that the cross country course started in the arena. She had two simple jumps to go through in the arena, then she had to take Pass out through the other side to start the wooded course.
As they started the course, Pass tossed his head and bucked a bit, playing. After the first couple jumps he was still excited, and as they left the arena and turned onto the dirt path for the rest of the course, Beth could feel him tugging at the bit. Other horses were all around, in pastures, walking with their owners, being cooled down, being warmed up..You name it, there were horses doing it. Beth took a deep breath and nudged Pass into the slow gallop he was begging for. The stallion didn't hesitate.
The pair took the next five jumps easily, barely slowing down. Each time, Pass landed with a buck and a toss of his head then bust forward again. Finally, he started to settle into the work and they moved toward the eighth jump in the course at a nice, slow gallop. Beth decided to take the harder, but faster, part of the jump and turned Pass toward the double jump ahead of them, rather than taking the smaller single and having to double back to continue to the next jump. Pass slowed slightly, unsure of the solid wooden fence, but he pushed himself over it when Beth asked him to. He landed with a heavy thud and lunged to the smaller second part of the jump. This part would make them land lower than they would take off, in a shallow ditch with sand and a small stream.
Beth let Pass find his own footing in the sand and they powered toward the stream. Rather than jumping it, like alot of horses did, Pass charged straight into the shallow, though icy water, loving the feel of it. As they reached the other side Beth heard cameras snapping and smiled, asking Pass for more speed. The palomino stud gave it willingly, busting toward the other side of the ditch eagerly. He launched himself up the edge and Beth heard a final snap of a camera. Someone had just gotten one hell of a picture.
The rest of the course went by quickly, with Pass getting a bit bored toward the end and Beth simply letting him find his own way. As they thundered across the finish, Amy was waiting for them, waving her camera around like a maniac.
"You have to see this shot I got of you two!" She beamed at Beth and turned the screen to show her friend.
The picture showed Pass as he launched up the ditch, with barely any of Beth showing. She laughed and dismounted, looking over the stallion. He was still dancing in place, though his creamy coat was darkened with sweat in places. His dapples stood out dramatically and Beth giggled.
"Good boy. You were amazing!" She tells him, then lead him back to the trailer to groom him and cool him out.
