Description The Tale of Beren and Lúthien is the story of the love and adventures of the mortal Man Beren and the immortal Elf-maiden Lúthien, as told in several works of J. R. R. Tolkien. In this painting, Lúthien and Huan, Hound of Valinor wait for Beren to wake after healing the poisoned wound Carcharoth the werewolf left him when biting off his hand. The Great eagles placed the spent couple on the edge of Doriath looking north past Gondolin, over Sauron’s Isle, which Luthien destroyed and left in ruin.
"And at the last the eagles set them down upon the borders of Doriath; and... Huan came to her, and together they tended Beren, even as before when she healed him of the wound that Curufin gave to him. But this wound was fell and poisonous. Long Beren lay, and his spirit wandered upon the dark borders of death,
knowing every an anguish that pursued him from dream to dream." chapter 19, The Silmarillion.

Um... why are her legs up Huan's neck?

That's Huan The Speaking hound from Valinor. He helped Luthien rescue the vegetarian animal lover Beren.

BTW, I haven't read the silmarillian yet. I've read the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy, but not yet the silmarillian, so it might explain why I know the people's names but not the finer details like Huan. :C

Wargs are descendants of the Wolf-hounds that have been bread to be hideous, wild abominations rode by orcs.

Yeah, I was just curious. A friend of mine on here draws his Wargs like your hound thing, so I got a little confused for a second there.

It is a bit confusing, there are many opinions about wargs and not as much written about them. The Silmarillion is good, you can read it in pieces, it is full of little stories.

My sister told me all about it when I was a kid. I got all excited for it, but then never got around to it... that does it, I'm reading it!!! >8C

cool, don't be discouraged by the first two chapters, they are a bit... ambiguous, it gets solid after that.

Like the first LOTR? I got so bored with the Hobbit stuff, so I started taking notes since I thought that all of it would be important later. lol

Honestly, the painting is wonderful. Everything is very beautiful and gives the picture a magical feel, the flowers and the grass, the light and shadows, the colors, the mountains in the background, the sky, Huan and Beren.
Everything except Luthien: her hair is pretty, but her pose puts me in mind of a whore (I don't know why, it just doesn't look natural, particularly considering the setting), and her clothes (the sandals and the short dress) looks too modern and not elvish enough (I can't see her going through all their adventures clothed like a Hollywood star).

It's all only my opinion of course, and I only say because I really, really liked the rest of the painting and she ruins it for me.

That's fair, i can see your point. i will think more about elvan outfits although, technically they might have been naked at this point. i do agree that any hint of modern should be tossed. I might do another version with new clothes. but in my defense on one thing, if there was any hollywood in middle earth...midywood?..Luthien would have been like Brittany...lol (or popular anyway). I like your opinion, thanks for the input.

Lol Luthien in midyhood wouldn't have been Brittany (which one by the way?), she'd have been a thousand times more than that. She would have been something like a goddess and every male alive, elf or man, would have worshiped her!

I'm not up to date on holly-wood, but i agree she would have been a goddess who's fame came from her beauty, blood and her singing voice.
I wonder, who is today's Luthien?

*think for a moment* Well I can't say, there isn't a single actress I find exceptional enough. But perhaps we should ask a male about this! I'm not really up to date on hollywood either I think! ^^

(but I can think of some male actors I find handsome enough!)

I'm a male, lol, i figured Scarlett Johansson was pretty enough but with the voice of Christina Aguilera... I plan to do a painting of Luthien with her mom and dad, at home maybe when Beren confronts Thingol the first time. She will be at her full majesty then.

Well that's what happen when you're used to meeting only girls on the net, you have that tendency to forget the existence of boys! *no comment*

Scarlet Johansson is beautiful. Perhaps with a good voice, black hair and Cate Blanchett's noble air she could do something good.

Beren vs Thingol? lol: "For little price do Elven-kings sell their daughters: for gems, and things made by craft. But if this be your will, Thingol, I will perform it."
(Beren spends most of his time getting himself into trouble and being saved by his girl, but he does have some cheek!)
I'm looking forward to seeing your painting!

Beren and the wolf and the background are incredible, but there is something in Luthien's pose that irks me. I don't know why or what it is...

thank you for your honesty, i may have made her a bit too comfortable? perhaps she should be more stressed out, although she must be feeling very confident in her powers after the things she just did. your insight is appreciated.
