The Spirit Flute from Legend of Zelda - Spirit Tracks. ^^Wheew...I took me quiet a while to make this flute.
The paint on the pipes alone took me more than 3 whole days x_X (why does that stuff has to dry 24 hours???). But I love the outcome. ^.^
I liked the instruments in Zelda since the beginning. I own a ocarina with the triforce symbol on it, too.
But I've never made an instrument myself. But I just wanted to have this flute, since I first saw it in the game. xD
The whole flute is a bit more narrow, than the flute in the game, but I wanted a flute I can play on (and I'm NOT a comic character with a head bigger than my whole body xP).
I had a lot of fun making it, hope you'll like it, too ^.^

I'm planning to make one god-knows-how-long, but I'm really so to disappoint you, that there isn't one yet. ._.

I'm sorry but I don't think I'll ever make another one of this again. It's really incredible time-consuming and on top of that, not very cheap to make.
But If I do, I make sure to let you know about it. ^^

Jep, those are all materials I used (xD excluding glue and such but that should be obvious). ^^
It's not that complicated but it needs a lot of time. And I didn't put as much in it as I could. I could have made it sound even better for example etc. xD

Unfortunately, it doesn't.
It doesn't even match with the music scale. It goes "D E F F# G# A" instead "C D E F G A".
But I could make it sound like the one in the game (at least almost like that, because it would be quiet impossible to create such an exact sound with simple plastic pipes), it would just need a bit more accuracy. ^.^

What makes it work? That's easy. ^^ The mechanism is the same as a normal flute.
First you need to know, that EVERY pipe makes a sound when it's closed at one end (COMPLETLY CLOSED!!).
The longer the pipe, the deeper it sounds.
So you can create different sounds by changing the lenght of the pipes. ^^
If you pay attention, you can even fit the tones with the normal music scale.
At that point, I should mention that mine doesn't fit. It goes "D E F F# G# A" not "C D E F G A". But if I want to, I could build one which fits...it would only take more adjusting than before.
So...you just need a pipe, close it at one end and adapt the lenght of the pipes.
The lenght of my pipes is in the description. Every pipe is 4cm longer than the other.

That's made with polymer clay. Simple cut into the right shape and painted with acrylics. ^^
I carved the line a bit, so it looks more realistic.

Ever blowed into an empty bottle? oo' It makes a sound, too.
And you can change the sound by changing the length of the pipes.

Heh, that's cool. The in-game instruments are synthetic so they sound close, but aren't actual instruments. But really nice texture and on-the-spot details!

Uhhm...I didn't really used a certain diameter, I just wanted the pipes to be "bigger" than normal pipes as a reference to the orginal which is also "big" compared to Link.
Mine have a diameter of 2,5 cm, and from my own judgement, I wouldn't make them much bigger than this...it's hard to play them like this.
And of course, they have to be closed at an end, or else they will not make any sound.

After all, my flute doesn't fit with the normal music scale.

If I would want to make it sound really perfect, then I would need to rebuild it an change the lenght of the pipes.
Because it's just for "fun", I didn't paid that much attention onto fitting the scale. But it still sounds good. xD
