Manual focus SLRs are a dime a dozen these days, I'm sure you can find one somewhere.
As far as 120 film, they get a little more pricey, but still reasonable. I'm super happy with mine, and I most definitely suggest getting one!

By MF, I meant medium format. 35mm slrs aren't really my thing. The only camera I've ever really liked a lot is my medium format yashica TLR, but Β maybe someday a mamiya TLR Β or RB67...

Oh yes, my mistake!
I do highly recommend the RB67. It's the best medium format camera I have come across.

Glad to Β hear you like it. I have a friend who shoots with a Hasselblad 500C/M and loves it.

Oh yes, I do love Hasselblads!
I was looking at one before I decided on my Mimiya.

I'd love to own a 500C or CM with the 80mm 2.8 and a couple A12 backs.

Maybe one day I'll have a Hasselblad of my own.
The next thing I'd like to get is a Polaroid bad for my camera.

That would be neat. I've played around with a Polaroid 600 with interesting results but never really got into them.

I've got two Polaroid cameras, a 600 Land Camera and 900 Electronic Eye, as well as a NPC Proback for an Nikon F3 and N90s.
I've shot all but the Electronic Eye, and loved the results.

I've only shot a couple packs. One from impossible project and the other was expired 2006. It's fun but I can't say I like it enough to justify paying 20 dollars per pack.

It is rather expensive, I do agree. I'm told prices will come down as popularity increases, if it does.
Have you ever shot large format?

prestonthecarartist In reply to rioross [2015-05-08 23:52:45 +0000 UTC]
The largest I've ever shot was 6x9 cm in an old ansco folder. It was a cheap scale focus thing, and I only shot one roll.

I've shot some 4x5 inches in a 1950's Crown Graphic. It is by far some of the best pictures I have ever shot. Of course, I have only shot 4 pictures, but that is only because it shoots two pictures per slide.
I'd be shooting large format all the time, but it's cost per picture is too much for just shooting freely.
35mm is my most used, but medium format is a happy balance between cost and quality.

I've been spoiled by the medium format negative... 35mm seems tiny in comparison now and I haven't found a 35mm Β camera I really like yet.

I know how you feel. Medium format is amazing in comparison.
The reason I use 35mm is accessibility and affordability. If I could get 120 film anywhere for the same price and with the same amount of pictures per roll, I wouldn't even think twice.

I usually stock up on cheap 120 bw film online, usually arista edu film from freestyle photographic. I'll buy a couple bricks and be set for several weeks. As for 35mm, I don't go through it as fast but I can get it for free from my photo teacher. I don't do a lot of 35mm color but I bought a couple rolls of portra 160 to try out. I like it a lot in 120.

I haven't had much luck with finding deals on film, but I usually buy 4 packs of 35mm film. That sets me for a few weeks.
As far as 120 goes, it's usually black and white Ilford 100. I am going to order Ektar 100 for 120, seeing as how much I love it in 35mm

I've never tried ilford before. Tried kodak tx400 on 120 once but every roll was incredibly curly. The only kodak film I've tried and liked is portra.

Ilford is the most prominent where I am, so it's readily available. I find it to be some really great film.
I have some Kodak Ektachrome, but it's over twice as expensive to develop than regular film.

The only stuff for sale in stores here is drugstore fuji superia 400 and kodak ultramax 400. Both are kind of mediocre. I can't get any other film unless I order it.

I wish I could find them at drugstores. I have to go to a specialty store to get film.

Nice. Are they mainly digital? I went to a camera store/museum in staunton va... Shelves and shelves of beautiful and desirable cameras, but none for sale. He only sold digital gear and garage sale brownies and the like.

They are mostly digital, these days. They do still sell film cameras, but that's based on when they come in.
There is a small, two man army called Shutterbug within National Camera Exchange that specialize in film cameras.
