Seems Brian didn't take too kindly to the Family Guy writers temporarily killing him off under the wheels of a car. If he ever did meet his maker, he'd probably take the opportunity to give him a taste of his own medicine...

Oh come on. Can you blame me?

Even if (like me) you stopped watching Family Guy some time ago, you'd have done well not to hear about the recent fiasco surrounding Brian Griffin's 'death'. Suffice it to say I was less than enthused by the whole affair, not least because I saw the subsequent time-travel-induced resurrection coming from the start. Indeed, the cynic in me suspects the entire storyline was somewhat underpinned by a desire to drum up some discussion and publicity around the show - and from the looks of it, it succeeded too.

However, what I did find rather amusing and surprising was the sheer number of people who immediately got in touch with me to inform me about Brian's supposed demise, and to ask me whether I was ever going to draw him again as a result. My answer to all concerned was 'of course I will' - not just because I suspected the whole thing was only temporary, but also because nothing the Family Guy writers ever do to Brian will have any bearing on whether or not I decide to use him for my own ends.

It did put a mischievous little idea in my head though. And upon hearing of Brian's return, I felt motivated to come up with this little jab at Seth MacFarlane & Co.

Those of you who follow my work elsewhere may be aware that I have previously produced some artwork revealing my 'interest' in cars running over things. And given that I hadn't had a go at drawing Brian for over a year now, I thought it would be fun to stick him in his Toyota Prius and turn the tables on his creator. This did of course present various challenges, not only in trying to draw the car from such an awkward angle, but also the rather bizarre task of trying to draw a representation of Seth MacFarlane in the style of Seth MacFarlane. It is probably a mediocre effort at best, but you get the idea.

In order to keep the content relatively topical - and also to try and submit one more picture before the end of 2013 - I tried to whip this one up fairly quickly. The drawing was done two days after Christmas, then I managed to finish up the colouring and shading at the weekend. I was also able to take a bit of a shortcut with the background by borrowing a few elements from the layouts in my 'Road to the Microverse' animation riproarrex.deviantart.com/art/… , albeit rather rushed and sloppy in its implementation. But then who really cares.

I plan on reflecting further upon the past 12 months in a journal entry soon, but for now, here's me signing off for 2013, and I wish you all the very best for the year to come.
