Description
I wanted some practise with dramatic lighting, so I decided to paint this picture with a strong back-light. I went back to my old technique of painting in greyscale first, so it took me quite a while to find a colour scheme that worked for me. (You can see the in progress greyscale painting on my Facebook page )That egg isn't going to be anyone's dinner today!

I'm guessing the serpent probably wants to eat the egg, but then why foster parents?

I think it might be the serpent - Because, they usually want to eat eggs, especially when they look scary like that... But that's what makes the story interesting, to turn things around!
I think Risachantag likes to do that sometimes.

It's amazing. Simply amazing.
My favorite part of it all, it may sound weird, though, is the water.
I have seen many good work from you, so the good figures are common.
But I feel that the water you painted here is so good, that, if you trim it, it could make a painting on its own.
I'm not saying that I don't like the rest of the painting, though. I'm saying that you really exceeded my expectations with the lighting in the water, and the water itself.

I like the action with the spears in the serpent's body and the riders on the giant birds. I like the image where one rider is struggling to get back on the bird. Great job!

It looks very impressive. The serpent looks like mix of dragon with some water creature, very well done. And the parrots my favorite, I love the way the parrot look at the serpent, awesome. I don't know if you know but nervous parrot really looks like that. Spread the wings, open beak and hiss and their plume stand.

It's interesting that you can look at this like 'evil humans stealing a poor mother's baby' or 'heroic humans defending an egg from an evil snake'. Very cool!

I'm kinda lost .. who is the parent? the water Dragon or the Birds/ humans . who wants to eat the egg .?? .. >__< when i see this it makes me believe that the egg belongs to the dragon because of its size and the humans with birds are fostering it ..! 0__o" .. but why would the dragon eat his own egg?

Ah, it's a little ambiguous I guess, but the dragon egg back there isn't the serpent's egg. The serpent is trying to eat the egg that the parrots are looking after.

Oh, the parrots are the foster parents to the dragon egg in the background. They're fighting off the serpent there, that was looking for an easy dinner... and found it to be not so easy after all.
