No wonder I thought I was dreaming. I saw a pic of Dante in a Viewtiful Joe-ish style, and it looked official too. I have the Gamecube version so I guess it's obvious that he wasn't in that one.

Leafeon is called the "Verdant Pokemon" in the Pokedex description. So that pretty much explains it.

I've played the game (it's pretty rare to find nowadays). Anyway, the theme of Viewtiful Joe is that the hero (that's Joe) adventures in the land of movies. He plays a role as his own Action Hero who simply bests up the bad guys with style. Since he's in a movie, (and a good action movie needs to have style) Joe has the ability of video effects (Mach Speed, Slow, Zoom, Replay, etc.) to bring in the crowd and help him through his adventure. Joe kinda has the attitude of a Power Ranger or something, so at any time, he'll show off an strike a pose (like the one Leafeon is doing). Long story short; he's in a movie, doing whatever he can to satisfy his viewers.
YES! Whoops, wrong game.
