If you want to try something a bit different with the designs of your feathers try adding small close-knit lines (with a group no more than two). Connect the lines to the center line though or else it might look a bit off.

when i color the mane, i color the part that i want to kinda look shiny a lighter color than the mane color. im still practicing at it, its kinda hard to make it look like it really has a shine
