Here have a few rough and sloppy drawings with no bg cause laziness.
Some people have been wondering what a darkling looks like. Since we don't have any references for actual characters, I came up with a couple of examples. Of course you don't need to use all/any of these traits, but darkling traits should be fairly obvious at first glance.
The dark fire shown on the cat on the right wouldn't really be physical, it would just be a very visible dark auma. Though it wouldn't physically affect anything, if it touches a creature with light auma it will probably be extremely uncomfortable, like ice and sickness, or overall "wrongness"

What are the possible ways a Darkling could turn back to normal? I wish to make a darkling character for when you are open again.
I do have a backup character idea if new members can't make Darklings though, or if the chances are slim I will be able to make one.

Darklings can't turn back to normal by anything that's been discovered so far! You'll probably be able to make a darkling, but their apps will be judged more critically since there will be very limited spots :3

Is there any way for an existing cat to become a Darkling, and how?

Generally it would have to be approved by admins first, and it would be pretty rare. It would probably require the cat in question falling and becoming an Ashen Warrior for a year or two, then somehow turning back but retaining dark auma.

Hmm, we'll see! There's no precedent for it or anything. He would lose all of his memories and the change would be permanent. But we'll keep it in mind--if you want to bring it up again once he gets older, we can talk about it more.

For the flames (dark auma) would the pattern or place they burn in have to be close to that or can it be in a more selective area and unique to the cat?
I have a design in mind and I just wanted to know where I would place it, if able.

It can be wherever you want! This is just sort of an example of what it might look like, but feel free to do what you'd like with the design.

Not really, it's more just design! I might implement something like that later, give darklings little perks and abilities, but that won't be for a bit. It'll probably come with a plot-related thing.

yeeee i really wanna work on my ref right now but there's so many possibilities! I'm still just trying to design/decide on the final deets for my character and such. I"m not sure if I should make a new darkling or use slatepaw and revamp him like I originally planned.... I also really wanna use the physical dark fire traits on the cats, but just to be sure it'd be okay if I let them sort of control the intensity of the flames? so they don't have to be ever-present but maybe fluctuate with their emotions and such.
also curious if the fire burns/turns anything ashen around it that it touches, like if the cats left behind greyed/burnt footsteps if the fire's on their paws.

Haha I'm looking forward to meeting whoever your character is! They wouldn't be able to have conscious control over the flames but yes, I'll say that they can change in intensity based on their emotions or situation.
