Description
Weekly bird speedpaintingInspired by this journal , I wanted to draw a scarlet macaw in May, but I'm late due to a very moved month.
In short: A few days after I returned from my wonderful 2-week vacation, my grandfather passed away. Also, I have too much projects going on at work (which is not stressy but just requires a lot of time). On top of that, my best friend BlackMysticA is in the Netherlands for a few days!
Not to be confused with the green-winged macaw. Green-winged macaws lack yellow in their plumage and those red lines in the face are more abundant.
Scarlet macaw (Ara macao)
IUCN status: Least Concern

Ooo this is so pretty! I love the turn of the birds head and also the slight red dusting in some of the golden feathers. 
But oh I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather passing... *gives hug* We understand about your work and life in general. Thank you for still sharing your art and crafts when you do have time!

The passing of my grandfather was very sad as well as a relief, though. He suffered from Multiple Sclerosis - ever heard of that? - and he was very weak the past year. I'm glad that he can finally rest, no more fighting his unwilling body.

Yeah, I saw a reference photo of a macaw sitting on a palm tree and I really liked the idea of drawing a background with a little bit more detail and color. It gives it a more complicated look. What do you think?

It is indeed a nice idea, but the light grey in the background doesn't seem to go well with the rest of the colors. Your normal backgrounds I like because of the colors and textures, though, and the rough outline.
