9/3/08 - Sandhills Curiosity Shop, Erick, OklahomaThe Sandhills Curiosity Shop is located in Erick’s oldest building, the old City Meat Market, and is run by the one and only Harley and Annabelle Russell - the Mediocre Musicians. Although my stay in ”The Redneck Capitol of the World” was brief this wonderfully unique experience I will never forget! I was met with smiles and hugs and brought into a world that forced me to forget about life for a while! For about an hour we traded stories, discussed their rare and unique collection and took pictures! This was my favourite experience on Route 66! Do not and I repeat, do not travel the Mother Road without a stop in Erick, Oklahoma ”The Redneck Capitol of the World”! YeeHaw!

Also, the Disney movie "Cars" is based mostly on and has many references to Route 66.

That they are! What fun! As the sign says, Insanity at it's finest! I read somewhere that you can guage the weather by what Harley wears under his overalls. On the day I was there he wss shirtless indicating hot temperatures. (Not a more accurate weather report I have ever found!) A t-shirt indicates cool temperatures and a sweatshirt indicates cold weather! On a side note, upon my departure, Harley kissed me on the cheek!

Someday I want to do a route 66 trip. Either on a scooter or by car. I'll make a note of Erick, OK.
I've wandered into a few similar shops, always looking for an old Kodak Film sign. And I've been disappointed every time.

Ever since I was a kid I wanted to ride a motorcycle across the country. Now that I am older a car was just fine! None of Harley's stuff is for sale, he says it's for all to enjoy! For your sign, check eBay or put up an item wanted on Craig's List? Let me know if you ever take the trip, I'll give ya the knowledge you need.
