Description In 1862, the Norris Locomotive Works of Philadelphia built a 4-4-0 locomotive (serial number 1040) that arrived in California the next year as Central Pacific Railroad No. 1 Governor Stanford, whose name was shortened to Gov. STANFORD on the cab.  The locomotive used to be displayed at Stanford University, but now (befitting its early place in the history of the transcontinental railroad) is one of the first locomotives visitors see at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento.
