Description To circumvent restrictions imposed by the Versailles Treaty on tanks, Germany began developing large, heavily-armed armored cars.  These were designated Schwerer Panzerspahwagen (Heavy Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle), of which an 8-wheeled version began replacing 6-wheelers by 1937.  During World War II, a new and improved armored car was introduced.  It was designated Sonderkraftfahrzeug (Special-Purpose Vehicle) 234, or Sd.Kfz. 234.  The Sd.Kfz. 234/2 variant was designated Puma in the German tradition of naming AFVs for animals, and was armed with a 50mm cannon taken from the cancelled Leopard-class light tank.  After World War II, many armies around the world have acquired their own heavily-armed armored fighting vehicles, e.g. the Stryker, MOWAG Pirahna, and BTR-series cars.  This 1/35 scale model is on display at Shizuoka Hobby Square in anticipation of the AFV festival.
