Description this was for James Gurney's (dinopia creator) blog where he provides a quote and we illustrate it. It's always a quote taken from a novel that is out of context. It creates some pretty interesting images lol.

Here's the quote

what suprised me was that i didn't feel apothesized, or transmorgified. Didn't feel like much of a god. I was at the very beggining of some process. Eons of further development lay before me.

& yes i'm playing with digital now, i spent a day on it.

This is such a beautiful piece, but there is something very disturbing, almost sad about it. It's a complicated feeling to describe, but I do feel very sad when I look at it. Hope that doesn't sound too strange, because I don't think that was the effect you were looking for. But adding to favorites anyway!

I like the design of the robot/cyborg, and your use of colors.

Oh, I love James Gurney. My parents got me "Dinotopia" for my sixth birthday (I was very into dinosaurs back then), and the art in that book was one of the things that made me want to be an artist.

heh awesome i'm pretty much in the same boat, then again who isn't. Gurney's blog is a fountain of knowledge and he's a nice guy, i'd suggest contributing to the next sketch game that i did this image for called "art by committee".

it's linked on the left side of his blog along with all the categories.

thanks for all the comments!

no prob.

Gurney gathers the sentenses from random clippings taken from old scifi magazines and books. Many times he doesn't even know what they were from, and the game revolves around the fact that the participators never know where they were from lol.

You're just as good with digital media as you are with traditional.

thanks, this is like my 3rd digital piece. it's really more like my traditional training allowed me to learn digital

I still have a ways to go though. i just flopped trying to do a digital rendering so i'm printing it out now to do it in oils lol.

Ah, I hate oils. I really love to paint (I'm a traditional illustration major) but usually do my own work digitally because I don't have the room for painting.

I like that it doesn't scream photoshop. I will have to do a search for his blog now...

Great job, love the colors...

you should! search gurney journey and you go right to his blog rather than the website. It's huge source of painting/drawing info.
better than the average blog i'd say lol

I like it very much, but wonder why it was posted in the traditional category when it is a digital piece.

You can still put it in the right category by editing it.

Interesting seeing something digital from you Rob-- I love that your usual style comes through. Is this photoshop or painter?
