Description Acrylic paint on 46cm x 36cm stretched canvas.

Created in response to a call for entries at Howden Park Centre, Livingston.

The Bean Shidh (Scottish for Banshee) is the second entry for Howden park Centre's Folktales and Fables exhibition in 2013. The composition uses single point perspective to draw the eye of the viewer into the middle of the painting. The figure is an oddly coloured figure (my daughter) who looks back from the painting out of teary eyes. Teary eyes that look over the left shoulder of the viewer, and looking at her next victim. A Bean Shidh in Scottish legend was forebringer of bad news who was often seen near water. She was often referred to as the Washer Woman because according to legend, she would be seen washing the clothes of the soon to be departed.

Again a really nice painting of a folktale! I like how you keep it sort of modern looking and I would love to see what else you can come up with. Is it too late to call dibs on the Boobrie?

There are many things I like about this painting. One of which is your treatment of the wooden bridge. Also the ghostly figure on the bridge. Very cool!

I haven't heard of the Souls Screamers before so I googled it. I can see why my painting reminds you of it Victoria. I'll mention it to my daughter because she may be interested in reading the series. Thanks for the information and the compliment.

Ronnie.

The amount of loneliness I feel while looking at this is astounding... beautiful piece, but insanely sad. Many, many, kudos, mate. Really impressive.

is like a totem, dramatic like a passing from one world to another..scary story, you get me in the painting or her view is on my shoulder and looking the next victim?,,...a wonderful painting my friend!

Thanks you for the compliments. The original idea was that she could barely bring herself to look at the viewer since they were to be the next victim. I since changed the story so the victim would be behind the viewer (in an attempt to not scare the kids or anyone else who might scare easy).

it is a really scary scene dear friend. Imagination is feeding more the actual reality of the painting. Nice work!
