Description Robert Shaw as Sam Quint in my most favourite film ever, Jaws. This scene is quite possibly the best in the film, when Quint talks about his time on the USS Indianapolis.

Shaw was a wonderful actor, and his scenes in JAWS among his best. He was King Henry VIII against Paul Schofield's Sir Thomas More in A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, and Doyle Lonigan, the gangster turned banker (and "mark") in THE STING. Supposedly he loved to get roles that showed off his wonderful eyes. In the TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE (the original with Walter Matthau and Martin Balsam) he gets electricuted (on purpose) and his eyes go wild in that scene. He died too young, just as his career had really been established by JAWS and THE STING.

'Here lies the body of Mary Lee. Died at the age of a hundred and three. For fifteen years she kept her virginity. Not a bad record for this vicinity'. Quint had all the best lines from that movie, this portrait kicks some serious arse gurl!!

So gooooooooood! Show me the way to go home, I'm tired and I wanna go to bed. I had a little drink about an hour ago and it went straight to my head. Everywhere I roam, through land and sea and foam, I am always singing this song (repeat until consciousness fades)

that's awesome! I saw the blurb on yahoo yesterday about the making of jaws. This was my favorite too as a kid and I watched all the movies and read everything by peter benchley and it started my obsession with sharks and beach horror movies (yeah i kinda liked piranha too lol). This guy was essential to the movie and I saw the thing that it was his last before headed home to Ireland to relax. Great choice of shading too

Thank you I'm a huge fan of the film so I know a good bit about the background of it. This scene always grabbed me, one of the very few moments that made you consider your own mortality through words alone. Brilliantly acted also, as I believe Robert Shaw was usually quite hungover! You can even see the look of awe on the face of Richard Dreyfuss, despite the pair of them hating each other.

Being in films isn't something I've ever considered. Watching, analysing, and discussing them at great length is more my cup of tea! I usually read into scenes too much, to the extent that I probably find interpretations that a writer themself wasn't even aiming for. If you knew even half of what I watch/own, you'd probably figure out for yourself that I'm all for free-speech and hate censorship with a passion. I'm not sure I'd be able to bring much to the table for you, but even so, it would be interesting if you could update me on any progress you make
