Description First real collaboration, with my buddy Hakim Very talented and prolific artist who was nice enough to shoot me the hi-rez line art back in January, right away when I requested it. Too bad my turnaround was not up to speed!

You can check out his original linework here: [link]

Quote is from the Bhagavad Gita, chapter 11, verses 31-33.

Made infamous by the scientist Robert Oppenheimer of the Manhattan Project: [link]
Seemed fitting.

For any interested in the colored figures without all the crazy background: [link]

The coloration definitely does the lineart justice, you managed to bring all the tiny details out to full effect. Especially the jewelry

Vielen Dank! One of my main objectives was to give that jewelry proper attention. Very glad you dig it!

This really is beautiful! Such a rich depth of symbolism in here, and your colors really bring it to life...Those ethereal traceries around the swords remind me of the trails left by the picosecond decay of particles in an atom smasher, which seems appropriate. And I know this image refers to Hindu mythology, but it seems like I can see a lot of different cultural motifs in here--the silhouetted faces, for example, recall Mayan pictrographs. Everything about it is amazing, including the obvious passion you brought to someone else's work...Great job, and great choice for a collab!

Righto... undertones of Fritjof Capra's Tao of Physics ! I kept thinking the whole time about nature, raw power, expressions of it in mythology, and reiterations of those themes in pop culture. Oppenheimer's infamous quote seemed obligatory, if not gratuitous.

Of course, the other thing on my mind was cultural cross-pollination. The SHIVA line artist hails from Indonesia, Hinduism flows from India, design elements like the headdres strike me as distinctly SE Asian (Thailand), and I'm the anime obsessed Yank who had to throw his loud palette over it all...

It was my way of showing gratitude for the awesome way that facilitates gobal integration.

kereeeen
( coooooolllll )

you color these so amazingly detail RoB....

VERY GREAT...not covering the real line art but in fact increase the articulation....
i meant the line art still remaining great and the color shows it self with high end quality esp the detail, without making the line art beaten, and making this two side ( line art & color ) comes together as one GREAT COLLAB

Thanks, Arif!

I decided early on hat I would try to preserve Hakim's solid linework and avoid painting over it.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Super work mate, the crown/tiara must of been a real pain to color, very well represented.

Rob-Cavanna In reply to XaDu [2008-08-12 19:33:03 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, Radu. There were many parts like that which seemed to take forever.
The crown was definitely a time gobbler. But at least I only had to render one in gold, then desaturate and flip it over, and retouch slightly to make silver.

After this, I hope to do some stuff that's a bit speedier.

Thanks, Josh! I appreciate that.

There are many different translations of this same verse. I cobbled one that sounded cool, but it may not be a totally accurate translation.

I see, well the best is too ask Idian's themselves since it is pretty much their religion.

I know at least one Dude I could ask, but I'm not too concerned w/ accuracy.
No one should be taking this work too seriously. It's just a fun drawing.

haha yeah, pretty much true. Lately tho a lot of the gaming industry is turning to the Idian's Faith and believes and using them a study research to make gods and design influence.

After a few days of rest, and having grown some fresher eyes, I gotta say this was a great design of yours, Hakim.

The Flower-Crowns, and many other unique design elements were a great idea. The moment I saw your drawing, this [colored above] is how it flashed through my head.

Thank you for sharing your art with me. It was a great subject to practice coloring techniques on.

I see so much hidden energy and life in [all] that black and white linework of yours. It was a joy bringing some of that power into the fiery/icy light.
