Description Oh man.... this one was a nightmare of navigating around crashes and compositing for almost six hours. Ugh. It's nice, but I'm not sure it was worth the headache.

At any rate, Capt. Dhruva and his Yeoman report to a starbase, as ordered, for a unspecified meeting with the Admiralty.

Lots of pieces here, from everywhere. Shuttles by XCal Pro. Uniform textures by JamesJAB. Etc, etc. Ask and ye shall receive. (sorry, but It's 2am and that's all I've got left in me)

This is a moment out of a real life---a neat trick since it doesn't actually exist.
The ordinary things we all do---go to work, doing lunch, hanging around the laundry room.
After all life isn't all phasers and warp speed.

It's fun to try and do a "fictional slice of life" image
Thanks!!

If you've got the shape, those dresses certainly provide a flattering presentation.

I can certainly understand this being a nightmare to create, but boy does it sure look great!!!! You're lighting, composition, poses are all natural looking and all fit together well, while also keeping the eyes moving throughout the entire piece without feeling too busy or overdone. Great art!!! Thank you very much for sharing it with all of DA.

Thanks for much for the kind and detailed feedback on this. I wish I could have done more with it, but I'm glad the basics that I got to work still create an effective image

This is really wonderful! Much sympathies on the crashes, but this is well worth it. Great poses for the characters. Great job of setting up a believable, active starbase background. I want to see this movie!

"Yeoman, I've been meaning to talk to you about your short skirts. I don't have a problem with them - I just thought you should know ... "

What is the background here?

"Oh, Captain - you noticed! You noticed!"

The background image is one of Didi_mc's, though I forget the set. The structure is mostly VBarretto's Delta Station. The antenna is the Dystopia antenna freebie off the Dystopia website. The landing platform is Coflek-Gnorg's.

Hehe! I did say this character making business was fun!

I've had images that start off simple, but the making of them are enough to make ya cry...remember my "beam in" picture. It's worth it in the end, but I do tend to wonder if I could've done better.

So...who's this yeoman...come on...prod...prod... name, rank, marital affiliation...

OK, if you must know.... by the light of day, and with most my braincells now functioning, she is Amira Borhan. She's the Captain's Yeoman... and the best way to think of her is as the Captain's executive assistant. She's young but intimidating brilliant. The Captain is torn between helping her move up in the Starfleet ranks or doing everything he can to hang onto the best assistant he's ever known.

This shouldn't have been too complex to render w/o crashing, so something was going on. I even ditched all the displacement maps and she still crashed, crashed, crashed. Honestly, this took close to 20 attempts before I found a way to finish it w/o crashing. Just a nightmare...

Name? I'm working on it. You don't want to start throwing out names when I'm too tied. Trust me... you DON'T!

Sorry I caught ya before your brain cell had had there morning infusion of tea/coffee/orange.

I know what you mean about frustrating crashy renders. There was a time when I could put loads of stuff into DS and it take it all in its stride. Nowadays, not so much, but it beats Poser for sure.

I love all the action and activity going on in the image. The sky and base really help with the TOS feel. I love it.

RobCaswell In reply to ArmandoCenturus [2010-10-28 13:11:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the base is one of Vbarreto's creations. His design work has a real late sixties/seventies SF feel to it. A bit of the Berkey school. So at least the era fits TOS' design sensibilities. That said I'd love for someone to create a bunch of Starbase structures to mix and match

Have a cup o'coffee and learn to accept compliments

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobCaswell In reply to JeremyVilmur [2010-10-28 23:53:22 +0000 UTC]

That's it! I skipped my coffee today!

Really. I did.

Oh, I do appreciate the complements. I don't want to come off callous. It's just that I had to make so many compromises to get this thing to render, so I know it could have shown a bit brighter had the tech demons not had it out for me. So I can't help feel a bit frustrated. But if I thought the results were a failure, I wouldn't have posted it.

So - thanks again!
