I have been reading a lot of "war comics" lately and it is interesting to see how different artists handle the subject matter... and I must say, good job keeping the fingers off the triggers!

That's funny. I hope I didn't make you overly conscious of it. It would be worse for us as, I imagine, to be too strict as to not allow for the natural handling of weapons... sometimes people simply do leave their fingers on the trigger (even when they shouldn't) but at least you are consciously engaging the question rather than just drawing whatever you will.

When firefights happen, sometimes soldiers will almost thoughtlessly put their fingers on the trigger, anticipating, or when they start shooting they have no idea how fast they are actually burning through their ammo and may even pull the trigger on an empty weapon a few times. I have known soldiers who knew better have accidental discharges because they were just nervous and not thinking about what they were doing with their triggers. How do you show things like that? Or, more importantly, would a highly trained G.I. Joe character do it? Probably not.

This is why I find it encouraging that guys like Doug Murray and Larry Hama were Veterans and likely just knew this stuff. Chuck Dixon has been writing material like this for a good long while and probably wouldn't carelessly create a situation like we are talking about. Speaking of which, there is a funny scene in the movie Black Hawk Down when an Army Ranger Captain razzes a Delta Force soldier about not having his safety on and he turns and bends and extends his index finger a few times and says "this is my safety!" It makes me laugh every time.
