Description For the final hero in my Golden Age experiment, I decided to evoke a different type of hero from that age.

The character of Doc Savage may not be all that well known today, but he was quite popular back in the Golden Age, albeit seen more in pulp magazines than in comics.  But Doc fit all the trappings of a superhero.  So much so that other heroes "Borrowed" several elements from his as well.  Most notably, Superman was known as the "Man of Steel," while Doc Savage was "The Man of Bronze."  Superman also gained a cousin with abilities similar to his own, soon after Doc Savage introduced a similar character in his stories.  And both heroes had their "Fortresses of Solitude."  Doc Savage's was in Manhattan, while Superman's was in the arctic.  But Doc Savage also had his own arctic getaway.  And so on.

So, I decided to do up a hero in the vein of Doc Savage, with "Doc Flint."  Again, this was a pretty simple design as it was just standard "Adventure" clothes.

For his origins, I saw "Doc" as a scientist and explorer who had washed up on a deserted island, the only survivor after his ship had sunk during a deadly storm.  Once there, Doc struggled to stay alive, fighting against the harsh elements and deadly animals in a daily battle for survival.  This daily battle hardened the man, becoming more rugged and skilled in the art of survival as the months went on.  During one of his daily expeditions to map the island he was marooned on, Doc discovered that the reason so many of the animals were so dangerous was due to the unique nature of the plants and vegetation on the island.  He discovered that refining the sap and juices from the plants, he could create a serum that would harden his skin and enhance his strength even further, becoming like unto a stone.  Taking the serum, he became "Doc Flint- Man of Stone."  Doc Flint also discovered a large cache of gold and diamonds on the island, which would aid him in is further adventures.  After being rescued, Doc used his newfound wealth and abilities to become an adventurer, traveling all across the globe to discover new locales and individuals, uncovering long lost secrets and hidden worlds, as well as fighting injustice wherever and whenever he could.

I love this! Classic heroes like Doc Savage need more recognition because they were the first comic book heroes! And what you have done here is a great tribute to the likes of Doc Savage! BRAVO!!

Great design and cleverly written origin: I remember Doc Savage, and I get the same "retro" feel from your work (also, I used to read an Italian comic which admittedly was inspired to Doc Savage, "Martin Mystère").

I've heard of that series.  Although I was first exposed to that series via the Western adaptation- Martin Mystery.

I was really surprised at how different the original was to the adaptation.

Yes, it's the reason I quit following it after a couple of episodes ("Western" sounds a bit werd, as both the cartoon and the comic are European )

And was set in Quebec, for some reason.

I guess I regard it as "Western" since it seemed to conform to Western sensibilities, the voice cast were all Westerners, and they specifically set the characters in North America.

Nice origin; kind of like a Golden Aged version of Green Arrow. Hope Flint doesn't share Savage's love of pseudo-lobotomies.
