Description
Not all Golden Aged heroes were normal humans donning the capes and tights to go out and serve as "Crimebusters," and I wanted to evoke that with this character- Lightning Man. I wanted a callback to heroes like Hydro Man or Pyroman. Heroes who had a fairly simple gimmick or origins, but were pushed as major headliners.

Again, the design was rather simple with the bodysuit, domino mask and books. The only thing I struggled with was the coloring. I initially decided on gold and blue, since those are colors usually associated with electricity and lightning, and are usually interchangeable in those regards. However, I decided that green and gold might be a stronger choice for a few reasons. One, I had already used blue and gold for Captain Crusader, and I didn't want to repeat that coloring scheme. Plus, I hadn't used a lot of green for these designs, and I wanted to break it up slightly. Third, I thought it fight in with that trope I mentioned previously about the color schemes on classic heroes not always lining up the way you'd expect.

As for his origins, I saw Lightning Man as a scientist who discovered that he could imbue himself with fantastic powers via a machine of his own inventions that harnessed the power of lightning itself. He discovered he could fly, manipulate electricity, transform into energy for short periods, and more. With these newfound abilities, the scientist decided to embark on a career busting criminals and bringing the guilty to justice as Lightning Man- The Human Thunderbolt.
