Description
A while back, while I was doing my tokusatsu drawings, a poster mentioned that I didn't really have a diverse lineup in terms of my character designs. And, fair credit, I don't really have that many overt minority characters in my designs. It's not something I ever try to do, but I will admit that I do have a lot of Caucasian characters in my designs. As a white guy myself, when thinking of character designs, it's just kind of what I gravitate to first. But it's not something that I don't think shouldn't be addressed.
Thinking about Nightshadow, one of if not the favorite of my designs, I often thought about who he was behind the mask. I kind of had a bit of an origin story for him, but I never got into who he was as a character or where he came from. Thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that there's no real reason he had to be a white guy. And if there's no reason he had to be White, there's no reason he couldn't be Black. So, there you go.
With this piece, I also really wanted to capture some dynamic movement on the part of Nightshadow. Spider-Man is a major influence on the character, so I really wanted to try my hand at depicted a piece that showed Nightshadow leaping into action, and conveyed a sense of motion.
