"Knowing you, Kiran, this is gonna be so crash."

When he first set out to change the past so that the Reach would never dominate the Earth, Bart Allen was fully aware that the time machine he came in would fully break down after arriving in the past, but he never expected that his time in the past not only meant becoming a Teen Titan, but also completing high school - an experience he never had due to the swiftness of the Reach's takeover in his timeline. He began living with his cousin, Wally West, AKA the Flash, and his family. During that time, Bart developed an almost maternal bond with his cousin's wife, Avinashi Pandit, AKA Jinx, who helped him overcome his self-doubt and guilt he had about lying to keep his cover safe. Bart also gained a deep appreciation for the culture and societies of India, learning more about the rituals and teachings of Hinduism, and especially a love of Indian cuisine. All that intensified when he met and rescued Kiran Singh when the Titans were investigating Reach activity off the coast of Japan. Kiran, now taking the mantle of Solstice, admired the fact that Kid Flash not only respected her in regards to her Hindu faith and the culture she hailed from, but also that he respected her in terms of the new state of her body. It made her feel less sensitive about not being able to wear clothes anymore, as Bart helped her come to realize that; before long they ended up falling in love. The deal was sealed once Bart found out Kiran could cook. So, when Diwali came around, it was natural for Kiran to ask him to celebrate with her and the Wests. Before the fireworks went off, though, she knew she had her perfect taste tester for her Paneer Tikka Masala.

Very pleased with how this one came out, and just in time as well. I had to go back and use my old drawings for Bart and Kiran as visual references, especially when it came to Kiran's blue streaks all over her body. I also had to do a lot of research into the traditions and customs of Diwali, since I knew nothing about it prior to this piece, except that during the 1914 Christmas Truce, the Indian soldiers in the British Army saw the Christmas trees on the German trenches, and were reminded of Diwali. That being said, I wanted to also represent those viewers in India who are celebrating this joyous occasion, and so I say: Happy Diwali!
