Hey everybody!  I thought I'd switch things up and draw not just a villain this time, but one of the grunt villains of the Justice League of America:  The Parademons!

The first Parademons were initially the most sociopathic and psychotic residents of Apokolips, but their insanity coupled with undying loyalty towards Darkseid twisted them into these flying reptilian monsters.  With his conquest of planet after planet, Darkseid, at the behest of Desaad, found a new way to create these non-sentiant beasts.  The current Parademons are former inhabitants of other worlds Darkseid conquered, or the corpses of said worlds, tortured and remolded until they are robbed of their former identities and become mindless shock soldiers loyal only to Darkseid.  Only death can stop them from their purpose to conquer and create more of their kind.

For the Parademon design, I was going for them to look like the reverse of Cyborg's look.  What I liked about the New 52 Parademons was their origin story, and how the process of becoming a parademon somewhat applied to Cyborg's origin as well, so I was going off of that as well as original pre-New 52 Parademon designs for that look.

Disclaimer:  Parademons belong to DC Comics, Gail Simone, Dale Eaglesham and the one and only...Jack "The King" Kirby.

(MILD SPOILERS BELLOW FROM THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE BELLOW)

Seriously though, it a good idea to have the Parademons be the transformed slaves of conquered worlds. Justice League: War wasn't a perfect movie, but seeing those poor aliens turned into Parademons was pretty nightmarish.

Beaten like a ragdoll by Superman, parts of him eaten by his own shitty Parademon soldiers and then teleported to be tortured by Darkseid for his failures... Is there a more humiliating way to go?

I know right? The parademon transformation from that movie, it was horrifying yet glorious at the same time! And it’s how my take on the Parademons. Though that’s also how my take on Cyborg was somewhat transformed as well, although he never joined the Justice League after that battle. He helped out for a few cases and then went off on his own, fearing he was a freak and a monster, but he then helped found the Teen Titans while protecting his home town, Jump City.

Now this helps explain some things.

I’m glad to hear it! What things did they explain for you?

Just what exactly Parademons were, how they came into being, and why some look different. I wonder what their power level is....Also, how big is Apokolips' Empire compared to, say, the Galactic Empire?

Well, considering that only the Justice League and the Teen Titans are strong enough to take them down, and since they’re pretty similar to Cyborg, they are pretty strong. Also, Darkseid’s Empire is so big, no one can keep track of how many planets he’s conquered. That’s near impossible. I can tell you, though, it’s minuscule compared to Trigon’s Empire

I do like the looks of this Parademon.

This is a wonderful take on the Parademons. It's good to see some of the grunt villains get the spotlight, since they're always relegated to the background.

Thanks!! I was mainly inspired by their appearance in the New 52, and I put my own spin on them as well. They're mainly one of Superman's grunt villains, and I felt I had to include them since they also play a role in Cyborg's origin. Hence why I went for them being similar to Cyborg in terms of cybernetics.

The New 52 version of the parademons was a good concept, and having Cyborg being tied to them was a nice touch.

A thought occurred; since Darkseid has always wished to conquer earth, one thing that could make it a whole lot more personal to the Titans, could be for Darkseid's daughter, Grail to have turned against him, and side with the heroes of earth; specifically the Titans. It could also serve as an explanation to how Little Barda becomes a part of the Titans.

That would be a good idea. Though I did think about using the Jeph Loeb Superman/Batman story arc about Supergirl's debut, but instead of training with the Amazons, Kara ended up staying with and training with the Titans when Darkseid abducted her and brainwashed her with a piece of Black Kryptonite.

When the Titans went to rescue her with Superman, Catwoman and Batman, Robin (Dick Grayson) was able to use the absence of Yellow sunlight on Apokolips to his advantage to defeat the brainwashed Kara. After returning to Jump City from Smallville, Darkseid attacked again, sending Superman flying, but Kara and the Titans were able to defeat him. Starfire delivered the final blow while Kara reprogrammed the Boom tube's coordinates to open space. Though having Grail on the Titans could be an interesting idea to explore.

Grail would certainly be in a similar situation to what Raven was once in (being the daughter of one of the Earth's most horrific enemies). As for her origin, I feel like it could be revised. In the comics, she's the child of Darkseid, and an Amazon woman, but that could be changed. She could still be a hybrid, but instead of being an Amazon, her mother could be an Olympian Goddess (one of the lesser known Goddesses).

That could definitely be something worth exploring.  Still, Grail could result growing up under the tutelage of her half-brother, Orion.  He is Darkseid's son, after all, and at one point destined to kill him.  The idea could be that Orion could send Grail to Titans Academy, in order to use the powers she inherited for good rather than become the key to freeing her father from floating endlessly in deep space.  Supergirl commented that he wouldn't trouble anyone...at least until somebody thaws him out of the ice he's trapped in.

That sounds good. If Grail was an Olympian/Apocalyptian hybrid, then her Olympian mother could have brought her to Themyscira to keep her safe, and out of Darkseid's clutches. Instead of Supergirl being the one trained by the Amazons, it could have been Grail, however because she's the child of Darkseid, the Amazons could always be wary of her. Because of this, they would keep her past from her (never telling her where she's from, or who she's related to), which could leave her feeling like an outsider, and wanting to know the truth. This could compel her to sneak away from Themyscira (sort of like what Diana did in 'Justice League' when her mother said she shouldn't involve herself with the conflict), and could eventually lead her to the Titans (since Diana probably mentioned them a few times to Grail during the times she would return to Themyscira to visit her mother). Grail could inadvertently be the reason Darkseid kidnaped Supergirl, since Grail leaving the protection of Themyscira would allow Darkseid to track and find her. When she makes it to the Titans, Darkseid could arrive as well, revealing the truth to her, and pretending to be a kind and benevolent father looking for his child. Since he would also be looking to take his revenge on Superman (since I'm sure he only had a bloodlust to destroy Superman at that point, and wasn't interested in what he would call "lesser heroes"), that could be where he kidnaps Kara. He could also take Grail back to Apocolips, and try to fool her into believing that it was the Amazons and the heroes of Earth who were the real 'villains', however when Superman and the others come to rescue Kara, Grail would finally be able to see the truth (and why the Amazons hid it from her), and could turn against Darkseid to help free Kara from his control. Like I said in my previous comment, this could also be how Little Barda joined the Titans. Since Darkseid's own child turning against him would cause quite an uproar from the slaves he oppresses, Little Barda could be one of them. She would probably have been one of those kept at Granny Goodness's orphanage (where Granny turned girls into Female Furies), and upon seeing Grail rebelling, rebelled herself. When Kara is freed from Darkseid's control, and she and the others escape from Apocolips, Little Barda could choose to escape with them.

Actually, the reason Darkseid captured Kara was so that he could have her replace Big Barda as captain of his honor guard, like in the comics, and to goad Superman into fighting him.  All of this, with my take on Supergirl, took place when Dick Grayson was still Robin, so as to honor Supergirl's debut in the late 50s.  By the time of Titans Academy, Supergirl has already been a Titan for much of her life, and is even one of the mentors at Titans Academy.  She even shares some of her mentees with Starfire, since the two girls understand what it's like being aliens living on Earth, and they help the intergalactic students adjust to life on Earth.  However, while Darkseid's main beef is with Superman, like in the comics, he also is amused when Batman activates the Hell Spores to bargain for Kara's release, this causes Darkseid to respect Batman and agree to the promise to release Kara and leave her alone.  My idea is that Grail would be brought up by Darkseid at first, but when he leads his forces against Earth, her half-brother, Orion, would help to show her the error of their father' ways, and that could cause him to rebel.  And that also could be how Little Barda joins the Titans, when she sees Grail rebelling and both Kara and Big Barda encourage her to break free from Darkseid's control.

That sounds a lot better. Grail would respond better to Orion if he tried to convince her of their father's wrongdoings.

Yep! My thoughts exactly. And with experience from Supergirl, Big Barda and Superman to back Orion up, Grail would have all the more reason.
