Description I picked up the deer skull at a yard sale. All the other stock used is my own. This is my homage to Georgia O'Keefe. She is the all time master of skull and flower paintings.

personally i think it woulda looked better of the blending of the bg was kept to the skull only that way it doesn tlook like it was a texture placed over an image, the quality of the manip though is nice, its clean and crisp, and no jpeg artifacts

As soon as I saw this, I KNEW it had something to do with Georgia O'Keefe. I've been looking at her work recently for my own art work, including bones. I think this really portrays the style of her work, well done

Oo, its quite creepy.
I remember being completley petrified by those sort of skulls when i was a kid. They had an entire wall of those at a local museum and i refused to even walk into that room.

However, that was a long time ago, and i actaully think this looks cool. I like that it looks so old.

Also i like the flower, its beautiful.

Like both the skull and the flower. However, i can't really see the connection between the two of them. And i don't think they fit together. At least not like that. They look so... separted.
The combination skull and flower could look good, if they were more.. woven(is that a proper word? excuse my bad english) together.

But thats just my opinion. Really, i know nothing about photomanipulation and its one of the artforms that i have most trouble understanding, so maybe im not the right person to critique.

Anyway, sorry for taking so long before i commented.
Cheers.

Did you ever read Stephen King's Dark Tower series? That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this. The rose is the symbol for the Dark Tower in our world, and the skull reminds me of the place of bones where the Gunslinger palavered with the Man in Black, who told him all about the Tower and Existence and an infinity of worlds. Art is never so much what it looks like as what it brings to mind, and what it brings to mind is different for everyone. This has the ability to immediately transfix and transport, and for THAT, you get a

Excellent composition. If I wanted to put a flower anywhere near a deer skull, that'd be exactly where I would put it.

I've always thought that deer skulls looked creepy. I remember when I had an art teacher that brought in an old cow skull that still had 'meat' on it, namely the snout. It freaked me out every day.

hmm, a skull with snout attached, sounds yucky - all my animal skulls are "sans meat"

Holy smoke! Is that a photo? It looks like a painting or collage by Dave McKean (I believe it was), the guy who did all that art for Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" series. I like it! Very 'goth'.

Thanks for your perceptive comments in the thumbs forum: "Contrasts the images of darkness and death, in the deer skull, with an image of fragile beauty and life, in the rose."

It's a genuine pleasure when someone "gets" a piece of artwork you have done. Many thanks!!
