Description This is a piece I inked over a LONG time ago. It still seems pretty cool, but man... I sure used a heck of a lot of halos in it. I tend to stay away from that these days. lol

Thanks for the compliment, man.

Halos in inking refers to the white line around a character or object that is used to separate it from an object behind it. I put a white line around.... well... I think just about every figure in this piece. lol. It's nothing to bad, but I'd have liked to have tried a few different things to get that separation rather than a thousand halos.

Thank you very much. I agree. The cloak / duster thing that the main character has is a pretty cool touch. never did tell me what he named the actual characters. heh

I honestly didn't notice the halos What did catch my eye was the uniform boldness of the guy in the very foreground @_@ very nice, smooth inks though

Heh, thanks. [link] The boldness of the foremost character is something I always shoot for. Though I tend not to always make it such a uniform boldness. I play a lot more with the line weight now. You'll see that on the Ninja Monkey inks I'm doing with :iconbobbet:. They're finally to the point of just going back and doing some touch ups. Hopefully, they'll impress my bud. [link]

Great work! I enjoy the detail and all the little touches. You preserve the penciller's craft while imparting your own artistic flair.

Wow! Thanks a lot! I really try to be true to the penciler, but I have to get a little bit of me in there. It just would be doing an artistic trade otherwise. ^__^ Thanks again, and thanks for the fav!

That's what I like about the best inkers (like yourself). There are so many pencilers that I love whose work was botched by some hideous inker. Glad to see you're not a hack, but a true artist.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Robo-Bug In reply to geezone [2005-06-01 15:10:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, Bobbett does, and I've had my chance, but I sort of decided it's to much work for to little pay. Inkers really get the short end of the stick, and NO deadline ever works out the way it's suppose to. Thus, inkers are usually required to pick up the slack. Unfortunately, I'm a VERY slow inker, so I'd probably never work out. I've done things for Hasbro (G.I. Joe and Transformers packaging art inks), as has Bobbett, but he's the one making it in the comics industry, and I couldn't be happier for the guy. He's one of those guys you just really want to see make it, and he is. Of course, I'm working on the promo/possible cover inks for Ninja Monkey, but really, that's about all I can handle these days.

Ok... that was long... Umm, sorry about that ^__^` Thanks for liking the inks!

geezone In reply to Robo-Bug [2005-06-01 18:54:57 +0000 UTC]

Hey Chad? That wasn't long at all. It's something I've encountered (Not first hand, not first hand, not first hand!!!) by looking at the business, trying to look at how to one day break into it, capitalize it, become Marvel EIC...and stuff (-_-'). The thing is, there are some egotistical brass turds out there who think the business is tailored to their one genre and in the end, one person from any department involved in the making of a book suffers. Writer, penciler, inker, colourist, letterer, Editor, publisher, company, the fans....

It's just, complicated. But. The good news? If you hang in there, you'll make it. For each person that doesn't give up, ten do.

Robo-Bug In reply to geezone [2005-06-01 20:19:59 +0000 UTC]

Well, I sort of gave up more for the reason that I just don't think I';d enjoy doing monthlys. I guess when i was told by Scott Allies (editor for Dark Horse) that my stuff was professional (he even appologized to me for having to wait in line), that was all I needed. My little ego trip if you will. ^__^ Of course, I'm nowhere as talented as a lot of people, but I seem to get a bit better all the time. I do the work more for myself these days, and maybe I'll decide that comics would be a fun endevour (doubt I spelled that right) in the future. For now, I just do my best to remain humbled by all the hard work people put into their art, and have a relaxing bit of life. Then again, I'm a graphic designer, so relaxing is rarely something I get to enjoy all that much. lol

You're extremely right in saying that as long as you hang in there, and really push to be better than what you were yesterday, you'll do fine. It's the abilty to work hard and work to improve that really seperates artists.

Take Care and God Bless,
Cole Dawg

Mr-NYM [2005-06-01 04:09:38 +0000 UTC]

whats a halo? And this inking looks pretty good. The page has a good flow to it, it is very fluid. The only criticism is try varying the faces of the figures more, give them more charecteristics, and vary the shapes more. Like the shapes of the chins, and the shapes of the mouths, but i get the feeling it was only inked by you and not drawn.

Robo-Bug In reply to Mr-NYM [2005-06-01 11:38:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was only inking it. is the penciler. He drew this like two or three years ago, so things have definitely changed in his facial style now. As for "Halos", thy are the sort of white line I've put around the figures to seperate them from other figures. Sometimes they help whenyou have a black background and need to knock out a figure from it, or something like that. I used it EVERYWHERE on this piece. A bit of an overkill, but it does work. Thanks for liking the inks. ^__^

If anyone wants to color this piece, send me a note with your email address, and I'll send a full size inks at 300 dpi.
