Character Bios
Ghemora

  • Age: 28

  • Height: 5’6”

  • Runs the Gorzic Center for the Alchemical Arts - both a private research facility for the reality-bending science of alchemy, and an entertainment center/theme park making heavy use of it.

  • Ghemora is a strong leader, confident and charismatic. Keeps a carefree attitude, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. More than willing to bend and break rules to do the right thing. Some of those who don’t understand her motives consider her conniving and mischievous. Those who actually get to know her respect and trust her deeply.

  • Great performer, singer, and dancer. She loves theatrics and making people smile. Very good with people. Is somewhat famous in the city of Sivemn and has a bit of a cult following. Wishes to help people that she sees potential in, particularly women who are down on their luck or underestimate themselves.

  • Her team's operations were pushed out of Sivemn by Cirque-Bastien, a much bigger entertainment group and competitor with ties to higher powers in the city - and much lower ethical standards. The Gorzic Center was relocated to a remote location outside the city, which doubles as her (and her colleagues’) home. While still popular, the Gorzic Center gets less visitors at its new location. Ghemora resents being forced to leave, and wishes she could move back into the city.

  • Runs a support group for women on the side, which she’s dedicated more time to since she was forced to move out. Heads back to Sivemn in disguise on occasion, using alchemy to sneak around and find prospective clients. Her services are free; she pays them to come and allows them to stay at her place as long as they don't cause trouble.

Haurus
  • Age: 29

  • Height: 6’7”

  • Ghemora's husband. Cares about her more than anything.

  • Avid puppeteer and collector. Has a bunch of figures, models, and toy sets. Tinkers with them using alchemy, turning them into machines or puppets. Loves making his own little worlds and stories.

  • Very easy going guy, but somewhat excitable and often afraid to say no. Can be a bit of the “needs an editor” guy, as he tends to run away with his ideas. Ghemora tends to be that editor, as she has a better sense for pacing and presentation.

  • Runs the Gorzic center as well. Handles the writing, script, and set design side of performances in addition to his other skills. Despite this, he loves participating in them directly as well. Really passionate about his work, arguably even more than his wife.

  • Loves cooking and landscaping.

  • Is half-orc, hence his large stature.

Dr. Dhantal
  • Age: 56

  • Height: 4’7”

  • Once a professional medical doctor, and one of the founding fathers of alchemy. Ghemora and Haurus were his students, and originally met under his instruction. He became close friends with them over time. Now retired from teaching, he believes the best future for alchemy lies in these two and helps them achieve their goals, putting his full faith in them.

  • Practically-minded, and wants to push alchemy as a science to better humanity. Not as passionate about entertainment and art as his former students, but deeply respects it from his experiences with them. Despite this, he uses what he learns from their endeavors to better his own research.

  • Occasionally helps Ghemora and Haurus with some of their wilder ideas. Particularly the ones that require biological intervention: temporary gene mods, potions, and similar things. While genetic modification is a long-established science at this point, access to traditional methods for it is expensive. His extensive knowledge of human biology and alchemy allows him to implement these things safely. Naturally, he’s also the team medic should anything bad happen.

  • Bitter against some of his old colleagues because of their misuse of alchemy. He doesn't generally talk about this with anyone, but it is a constant factor in his motivations.

Volla
  • Age: 25

  • Height: 6’5”

  • Former support group client of Ghemora's, she's a skilled engineer who took an interest in alchemy. She used to manage her parents' mining company in the town of Folvange, but after meeting Ghemora, the demons took a liking to her and offered her a position as their resident engineer. She accepted, feeling at home with her new friends.

  • An environmentalist, but loves technology. She thinks alchemy can solve a lot of problems that her parents’ business couldn’t.

  • Friendly, and tries to be outgoing, but shy and lacks the confidence in her unique skill set that her demon friends have in theirs. Needs time to herself more than the others.

  • She loves what Ghemora and Haurus do. Despite being an engineer, she loves art the same way they do, even though she doesn’t have as much experience with it. She loves the idea of using her technical skills creatively, and is fascinated by what alchemy can do in conjunction with them.

  • Likes games a lot. Board games, video games, etc., but especially pinball. Also a big fan of theme parks and waterparks. Loves animals.

  • Gets along really well with Haurus. They appreciate each other’s skills and interests a lot. This is entirely platonic of course, and Ghemora has no issue with it. She’s not the jealous type.

  • She’s abnormally tall because she’s a jotunn - colloquially a “giant”. She’s very average size compared to others from Folvange.

Raizelle

  • Age: 32

  • Height: 5’4”

  • Once an employee of Cirque-Bastien, she fell out with them after a major PR incident: management were caught forcing employees to genetically change themselves. Board member Raizon Settman was chosen as the scapegoat to take the blame. In an attempt to cover up the incident, the remaining board came to an agreement to secretly double down, mandating all similarly-named and similar-looking employees to change their names and genetic identities, erasing Raizon from the public eye. To Raizelle, this was over the line, and she quit. Cirque-Bastien tried to have her and other defectors killed to keep them quiet, but she escaped with her life. Losing hope in her career and desperate to avoid working in the slums of the city again, she reluctantly took up assassination, hunting bounties and stealing as she saw fit.

  • Extremely cynical, secretive, and distrustful of pretty much everyone. Struggles to see goodwill in anyone’s actions. Doesn’t do any favors without a proportionate reward or threat.

  • Cold and often mean on the surface. Deep down, she’s pretty insecure, especially about her appearance. Being a little older than the rest of the group, including Ghemora and Haurus, doesn’t help things.

  • Uses light-based weaponry. Her rifle can cauterize holes in her enemies, and her pistol can create illusions through light-distortion fields, such as appearing in a different place or becoming invisible.

  • Secretly wants to get back into entertainment, but has bad sour grapes about it. Doesn’t feel adequate, and is worried about getting taken advantage of again. Extremely wary of Ghemora and her friends, but takes up her offer for the money.

Cookie

  • Age: 22

  • Height: 4’11”

  • A naga girl from Moortem, a poor community on the outskirts of Sivemn. A huge fan of the local mobsball team, the Moortem Bombers. She hangs out at local bars a lot, watching the games on TV. After the Bombers lost a game against the Cruxenn Crooks, she got into a fight with a Crooks fan: Medger, a giant shark-naga who most knew better than to mess with. Although tough herself, Cookie was no match. She was lucky to head home with little more than a black eye. Ghemora bumped into her on the way home. Seeing her injuries, she immediately took her in to aid her.

  • Acts tough and is very impulsive. Takes pride in her own strength and the Bombers. Crass and often lacks a filter. Chases adrenaline highs. Wants people to respect her, but she often goes about it by trying to intimidate, impress, or one-up others.

  • In additional to mobsball and the Bombers, she loves skateboarding, cheap alcohol… and explosives. A lot. Exploding things gives her a huge big rush.

  • She’s half lionfish, half pufferfish. The latter makes her extremely durable. Her torso is covered with durable, boney spines, and she can inflate it to defend herself. She has control over this, but it can also happen on its own if she gets upset or stressed.

  • Wants revenge on Medger for beating her up, and wants to prove that she’s stronger than him.

Arlonne

  • Age: 26

  • Height: 5’7”

  • Member of the Knights of Dorak, the security and recruiting force of Dorakism, a religion popular in the upper class of Sivemn. The Church of Dorak, disapproving of the Gorzic Center’s works and use of alchemy, tasks Arlonne with stopping their operations by any means necessary. She hopes to resolve this with nonviolence, and convince them to change their ways.

  • Used to be a teacher at a Dorakist school. Joined the Knights of Dorak, with hopes of inspiring positive change in Sivemn. Loves kids and values nothing more than defending the innocent.

  • Seems stern, sensible, and assertive at first, but is actually an extreme pushover and gets really upset when people argue with her. Shockingly stubborn and naive, but always has good intentions, and in a pinch, is a much more reasonable person.

  • Has a rapid gene modifier that can transform its user into a dragon. Dorakism generally forbids genetic modification, and more recently, use of alchemy. However, taking on Dorak’s form, especially if necessary to do his will, is allowed. All Knights of Dorak have access to these.

  • She constantly tries to find ways to convert the others to Dorakism, and thinks she’s being sneaky in doing so. Everyone else sees right through it, most of them become varying levels of annoyed with her over time. Ghemora still believes she’s a good person deep down, and tries to help her expand her horizons and control her feelings.

Sochie

  • Age: 23

  • Height: 5’6”

  • She comes from a tribe of fauns known as the Chiquas Eolin (CHEE-quass EY-o-lin). Those born from this tribe have the unique ability to control their own blood like a separate limb, and can crystallize/reliquify it at will. This has served her people incredibly well, and is a cornerstone of their society, culture, and even technology.

  • Sochie has a relentlessly positive and fearless attitude, and is very wise for her age. Those who get to know her love her company. Despite this, she finds it hard to find friends outside her tribe, as she enjoys pain and playing with own blood. In addition, she doesn’t fully understand the social gravity of violence, since her people have no need to be afraid of all but the most extreme of it. Naturally, this is extremely off-putting to most outsiders, who are quick to write her off as mentally unstable. However, she has no violent tendencies outside of activating her blood powers, and is completely harmless if not threatened.

  • Sochie just wants to learn about the world outside of her tribe, making some friends and having some adventures she can impress her friends back home with… maybe even a cute boy. Ghemora is happy to oblige, as long as she promises not to bleed on anything.

  • Loves dancing, music, parties, and hunting with friends.

Stellene/Herion

  • Age: 21 (Stellene) 60 (Herion)

  • Height: 5’0” (Stellene) 3’11” (Herion, with staff) 2’2” (without staff)

  • Stellene is the niece of Herion, a once-fearsome necromancer who ruled over what is now Sivemn and much of the surrounding area with an iron fist, under the Hellanian Empire. His empire and original body destroyed, his brain now resides in a reanimated gromling corpse on a stick. As his palace was razed to the ground, Stellene fled with his new body to the middle of a desolate swamp, where they started a new life with the help of a few undead and an old rickety shack.

  • Spoiled rotten, conniving, and vain. She lived a lavish childhood in the old kingdom, and her uncle’s undead met her every whim, even in the early days of the swamp. Now, she too can force the dead to do her bidding.

  • Herion lives vicariously through Stellene. He wants her to take back the Hellanian Empire for them. Missing her old lifestyle, she shares that goal.

  • Necromancy is the technological precursor to alchemy. The same principles that tie a conscience particle, or “soul,” to a brain, can also be manipulated to defy conservation of mass and energy. Herion becomes aware of this over time through his corpse servants, and a certain “wandering demon” who may know more about it. When Stellene eventually runs into Ghemora, Herion recognizes her and encourages Stellene to take Ghemora’s offer to join her support group. She puts on a bit of a sob story to make Ghemora feel bad for her. While slightly suspicious of her half-rotten friend, she offers to help Stellene anyway.

  • No one knows Stellene from the old empire, and her uncle goes under the pseudonym Chroner. Their outfits were crafted by their undead servants, and not indicative of the old empire’s wear.
