It's okay to have a villain in a minority group, but you gotta make sure that there aren't exclusively minority group villains and majority group heroes in a work of fiction. That looks distasteful.

f i n a l l y someone said it
there's a difference between having a villain who's called a villain just because they're trans, and having a villain who just so HAPPENS to be trans, and the fact that they're trans has nothing to do with the fact they're a bad person. (heck i'm genderfluid myself so....)
that's like saying having a villain who wears a bowtie is discriminatory to people who wear bowties. it's a plain overreaction. sexuality has nothing to do with morals!

I honestly don't have a problem with villains who are minorities as long as they aren't the only minority character in the work of fiction.
I have tons of villainous OCs who are female. It seems like these days some people are hesitant to put female villains in their works, especially if the protagonist is male.

Most of my characters are villains, and they vary. That's mostly because I think villains are cooler than heroes, (mostly.)

Ophelia and Grief mostly, which both are very popular.
