There are cities underneath the ground that the ships sail to. In this world, one side of Earth is under a perpetual sun, so many people on this extreme end live in caves and tunnel cities.

for some reason it reminds me of the classic box and twig trap; like the guy atop the cliff is watching as the city slowly approaches their demise. but thats prolly not it at all lol awesome illustration regardless
