Oh my God, scanners are the WORST! They either make it way too bright or so distorted that it doesn't look right!

Yeah, definitely!
I just recently bought a new printer/scanner and I was so unhappy with the scans at first. Great resolution, good colors but way too bright! I could fix most of it with changing some setup options.
